About Buster

Adoption Fee: $100
Australian Cattle Dog mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Buster, a blue heeler mix, located in Charleston, SC. Buster is 3 1/2 years old and has been with us the past 3 years where he's been loved and has become family. Unfortunately, we must re-home Buster, because we now have an 11-month old son who is days away from beginning walking and we know Buster is not good with small children. We've been able to keep them separated up until now with great effort, but walking will make it harder. He has not shown any aggression towards our son, but we can't chance it. He has gone through a 4-week board and training program. Buster is crate trained and knows all the basic commands (place, sit, come, heel, crate, etc.). He loves to be side by side and close to his people. Whenever we go upstairs or leave the house, he immediately walks himself to his crate. When we say 'place' he lays on his dog bed. He loves going to the dog park and to doggy daycare. He loves the lake at the dog park and will retrieve a ball or stick out of the water'|sometimes. He is great and loving with us, but is very protective of the house and anxious around new people in the house until he gets to know them (multiple visits). Full disclosure - he nipped my brother (who he's only met twice) on his heels as he was leaving the house, so we know for sure that he is protective and a heeler! He did not draw blood. I am hesitant to say that he is aggressive, but he is protective He is pretty mild-mannered around is people an very loving. Buster is great with other dogs and kind of a push over. He currently lives with a maltese-yorkie mix that calls the shots and he's cool with it. He's never had an interaction with a cat so we are not sure about how he would be around them. He does seem very interested in getting to cats when leashed on walks, but that's the extent of any interaction he's ever had. Ideally we would want Buster to go to someone with experience with the breed, can easily exhibit being the alpha, and has a nice open space for him. It is very important that he goes to a home that treats him like he's part of the family and would exercise him regularly. Buster will come with a crate, collar, leash dog bed, toys, a large bag of dog food, water and food bowls. He is up-to-date on all of his vaccinations and has annual visits with our local vet. We are happy to provide record or contact details of the vet clinic. We are willing to travel for a meet and greet if potential adopters are not in the Charleston, SC area. Unfortunately, if we cannot find a new family for him, he will have to go to a shelter (on the waiting list currently). If you're interested in hearing more about Buster or have anymore questions, please feel free to to email me at [email protected]. I check this email daily so you should receive a response within 24 hours. Thank you, Danielle
