About Luna

Adoption Fee: 100
Australian Cattle Dog / Great Pyrenees
Age: Puppy
Sex: Female

Luna is an 8 month old Great Pyrenees/Red Heeler mix looking for her forever home. She is an energetic, sweet and playful dog. Luna was recently rescued from an abusive home. Her former owners kept her in the backyard with no sheltered coverage from the elements. Rain or shine, she was left outside. They never provided any sort of behavioral training. They had never even walked her, stating she was 'too high energy' to try it. They also left no water out for her so she was forced to drink chlorinated pool water. They only fed her when they 'had some table scraps left over'. Once the neighbors witnessed the owner kick the dog, they swooped in and took her in as a foster until she could find her forever home. Luna absolutely adores people and has endless love to give. She is content to spend her days cuddling you on the touch, lounging at your feet, or taking a car ride with her head as far out the window as you'll let her go. She has a lot of puppy energy combined with a lack of training experience, so she would benefit from an environment that can give her frequent play time and/or walks. She is very active and loves strolls to the park, fetch, frisbee, and tug of war. She also would benefit in being in a single pet home where she can be the star of the show. She is relentless in her pursuit of playtime and has difficultly reading social cues that the other animal is done playing, which can cause frustration/exhaustion for the other dog. Due to her inadequate food supply in her former home, she also exhibits some food insecurity. She has growled at another dog when approached too close to her food bowel. She also had never previously met a cat, so she continuously chases them excitedly around the house. She never hurts them, but rather jumps and sniffs them enthusiastically. However, this has frightened cats as she does not know her own size or strength. Luna is resilient in her adaptability. Despite her horrific background, she displays nothing but endless love for humans. She is a trusting soul with natural compassion and empathy. She comforted one of her foster family members on day 1, coming to sit on her lap and lick her face after tears were shed following a hard day at work. Luna adjusted quickly to indoor life with grace. She continues to make strides in crate training despite just a couple weeks of exposure, and now can spend overnight in her crate with ease. She is incredibly trainable and has picked up leashing and walking remarkably fast. She just visited the vet August 2021 and has a clean bill of health with up to date vaccinations and shots. She is ready to herd her way into your heart and home!
