About Heidi

Adoption Fee: $100
German Shepherd mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

I rescued Heidi in November 2020. She will be 2 in November 2021. She came to me advertised as never having met a human or dog she didn't get along with. That is not the case with me in our apartment complex. She has a very high prey drive and lunges after other dogs and men in an aggressive manner. Women she seems to be fine with as she lunges for them but in a more playful way. When we go to dog class we actually have a hard time getting her to react as she considers this place a safe space and quickly acclimated to the other humans (even men) and all dogs there. It's just where I live. I don't have a yard and have to walk her. At 70 pounds she pulls me down and has pulled my back out even with a gentle leader if I'm caught unawares by something she sees (bunnies are a favorite prey). She needs to be the only dog with a yard unless you're willing to spend the time and are strong enough to work with her on leash. I'm not strong enough. In the apartment she is amazing, playful, loving and this breaks my heart but I'm not able to care for her and am afraid she will break a hip of mine while on one of our walks. We have been through puppy class, family dog class, practicing the basics and are now enrolled in Rally Obedience just so that I can keep working with her in a safe environment. Please reach out to me if you can give her the home she deserves.
