About Izzy

Adoption Fee: 50
Corgi / Jack Russell
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Izzy has been part of our family for the last 4 years. We got her as a rescue from the Wenatchee Humane Society, but she originally came from a kill shelter in Texas. The papers we got say she was 1 year old then but we think they are wrong and she is between 6 and 7 years old. She has several idiosyncrasies that makes her a really special dog but also not the easiest for an inexperienced dog owner. She likes routines and to be in control of her body. (Ex When we got her she would not get too close to us but now she looks for cuddles every night, she also lets us pick her up to get her in the back of our SUV). She is a quick learner and adapts to changes once a routine or a new rule is established (Ex she can be on some couches, she is not allowed in the garage, she does not run at the door if it's open). She has anxiety and is alarmed by unexpected noises but is able to calm down if she is in known/safe space. (Ex. Once she learned the sound of the neighbors garbage bins moving she no longer barks at them). She is comfortable being on her own, and is fine being by herself in the house without problems (no anxiety barking, no destructive behaviors; she still has the first stuffed toy we got her 4 years ago). She is a sweet dog that will lay next to you when you sit, get really close to you when you are sick, and be content by just hanging out by the couch on a rainy day. She thrives in consistency and over the last 4 years we have seen her become a great companion dog. We are looking for a new home for Izzy because we want her to continue to be happy for many years to come, and several changes in our lives forces us to recognize that we might not be able to provide her what she needs. There are several reasons that on their own would be manageable but combined really make us question how happy she can be with us. One of our jobs is being relocated to London, where we won't have a lot of space nor a yard for her to be on her own. It is also a noisy city where she might not have a 'break' to relax from the noise or people. We have a baby that is now 1 year old, who is starting to move and can not understand yet that Izzy sometimes needs to be left alone (she will move if uncomfortable but a baby might chase relentlessly) Izzy also has EPI that is under control and easily manageable. We found out about it 2 years ago and once we found a routine we have not had any issues. What this means to her is that we feed her wet food and 15 min before feeding her we put enzymes on her food. She now eats 3 smaller meals a day but it could be 2 meals a day. The ideal home for Izzy is a family that can make her part of their life, has had dogs or cats before but does not have any now, has some backyard that she can access (she will ask to be left out, she is house trained), has no kids or has grown up kids that would let her be by herself if she goes away. She does not require daily activity, but a walk every other day will help her stay relaxed.
