About Bella

Adoption Fee: $225
Border Collie / Lab
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Bella our 2.5/3 yr old 55 lb Border Collie/Lab/ACD mix is a very funny girl who smiles now that she is finally comfortable in her own skin. This strong girl looking for a Foster to Adopt/Adoptive Home is a very busy dog who learned to actually fetch using diff balls and is learning about life on the leash and taking cues from other dogs. Even though Bella is a young adult, her past life didn't help her explore anything beyond her owners immediate needs and then there was a dispute with the landlord leaving Bella abandoned along with some fears to raised voices or loud sounds like a smack to the wall. Bella is still learning about life she isn't at the age to teach another dog manners she learns more with her person; her biggest struggle is an over stimulation when she is leashed and reactive to dogs on leash not off leash as she likes dogs and does fine w smaller dogs pug size but didn't know the leash or dogs her size that were non-confrontational. She is being trained by me using free shaping w operative conditioning and training tools to keep her focused on her handler and ease her response as well as redirection and high value foods and she hangs out w my confident calm male GP/BC. She isn't going to the dog parks, she won't grow out of this by slowly being crowded in by dogs on and off the leash she needs her person to be confident, obedience experienced and take her to these challenges by continuing the training and be able to demonstrate this to the rescue. Bella isn't avoiding life only on the leash at 4 AM or 11 PM (life still happens at these times of day) the way a dog learns is through leash training and life experiences that are not Alpha derived but Leadership. Bella shows her personality inside the home and needs to connect with her human and cuddle w kisses. She crates nicely, with a non-stimulating street environment view is an ideal home environment for her and a large yard so she won't be as distracted by everything and can enjoy games with you and ya know find some fun holes to climb into she likes to burrow not dig. An ideal home for Bella is: exercise w obedience; using balls to continue the games of fetch not chase the dog who has the ball; continued positive interactions not forced with calm confident dogs after slow introductions and leash positive experiences with stimulation in the real world; a break during a long work day with exercise of course before the day starts; 6 foot wooden fence/large yard; children 14 and up so Bella has adequate training and family time; no cats and no apartments. Unless there is demonstrated experience in handling a dogs behavior like Bella she won't be leaving TX has to be within a 2 hr drive from her rescuer should an adoption not work out. Bella adoption donation is $225 with an application to adopt, home visit if applicable, she is up to date and heart worm negative and will stay microchipped to rescue and adopter.
