Please note we will ask for a vet reference. Harley is a beautiful girl in need of rescue/a new home. Her owner tells us she originally rescued Harley to help her find a good home, and gave us more details: 'Harley is a very sweet loving girl that needs lots of attention. When we rescued her it was only to help her find a good home because she was going to be put down otherwise due to her visual impairment. We got her eye removed when she was four months old (eyelid is sutured closed) because it was like a red balloon. She has a cataract and detached retina in her other eye. I have 3 very energetic children and I feel her being here is more of an anxiety for her because of some much energy. I want her to have a loving home that can give her the attention and stillness she deserves.' Name: Harley Age: 3 years Breed: Catahoula Hound Sex: Female (confirmed spayed) Location: St. Lucie County, FL Vet Info: Harley is confirmed spayed, and is next due for her rabies vaccine in October, 2021. Harley has been on Phenylpropanolamine and has had regular veterinary care, but has not had a recent heartworm test. Harley weighs about 65 pounds. Dog Info: Harley is an indoor dog with run of the house. She is housebroken, but not leash trained. Her owner tells us, 'She has our back yard which is a double lot fenced in yard. We don't take her on walks because she gets very nervous on the leach and hard to control because of her strength. She wants to sniff everything and will drag you and every noise (car, bike, person) she will bark and get very skiddish) I think its too much for her. We have tried several times to try to walk her.' Harley is a smart little girl and knows several commands, including, Sit, Stay, Down, Easy, Paw, Treat. Harley is also a friendly girl, and her owner tells us she is good with men, women, older children, male and female dogs, and cats, and currently lives with a cat. Harley is not possessive of toys, treats, or food, but her owner tells us she can be nervous with the kids running around. 'She has snapped when somebody came in our gate and she was caught off guard. When the kids are running around the house (being kids) she gets very nervous and she has snipped once. The kids are familiar with her and how she becomes if they are too energized.' Harley's owners believe she has about 10% vision. She has seen an ophthalmologist, and her owner gave us more details: 'blind at birth. She had an inverted eye which her pupil was completely backwards. Her other eye has a detached retina and cataract with visibility at about 10%.... They said in the future she might need her other eye taken out if infected.' Harley's owner also gave us more information about her health: 'Harley has had a history of 4 seizures due to unknown case. We keep a log of them and just notify the vet when it occurs. They said whichout taking her to get an MRI Scan of the brain they dont know for sure the cause. I called and it ws roughly $5000 to begin the process. Unable to pay and the seizures have only happened periodically.' Harley's owner wants us to know what a sweet girl she is! 'She is such a sweet girl and so many people love her. I would keep her but I feel like she would do better in another home with less chaos like mine.' NOTE: We also have a video of Harley playing fetch! Please email [email protected] if you would like to see it. **Owner Surrender Disclaimer: These are blind and visually impaired dogs who are living in homes, but their owners can no longer keep them.
