About Bernie

Join the action! This handsome hound-dog loves to play. Bernie gets along very everyone and can rumble around in the grass for hours. --- I fenced yard is a must for Bernie, and a playful companion dog in the household would be a big plus. --- Once Bernie wears himself out he settles down nicely and he loves a good snuggle. --- Bernie is very much a shepherd in the sense that he likes to follow his humans around. When you call for him he immediately comes over. He has a dark purple tongue which only occurs with a few breeds (Malinois, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Shar-pei are a few). His bark has a howling hound-like tone to it. Yes - Bernie is a little bit of everything. A real Southern mutt. --- Bernie was surrendered to a kill shelter in SC by an owner that didn't want him anymore. Few dogs in the rural South are spayed or neutered, and people tend to end up with puppies they never wanted or intended to take care of. --- Bernie did not do well in the shelter. He was absolutely terrified, and didn't like the way the staff handled him (I don't blame him). However as soon as we took him out of shelter he was happy as can be. --- Bernie is one year old and weighs 39 lbs
