About Chevy

Adoption Fee: $50
American Staffordshire Terrier / Pit Bull
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Chevy was adopted from the animal rescue league in Des moines 4 years ago. At that time he was believed to be 1-2 years old. He was brought to Iowa from Texas after some storm passed through down there. He is in good health, current on shots and vax. I believe he is about 70 pounds. He is house broken, spends most of his time in the house. In fact some days we have to force him to go outside. He knows many commands. He is kennel trained and enjoys laying in there even when the door is wide open. He will alert when someone knocks on the door. He has been quite friendly to visitors. Loves his toys but destroys most of them. Big knotted ropes last the longest. He has lots of jaw strength. He loves tug of war. He sounds aggressive when playing or meeting other animals but we have not had any problems with him being overly aggressive with them. We are pretty sure his is a Pitbull, or Stafford shire terroir. ARL called him an American bull dog mix. We have another dog and a cat, he pretty much ignores them. He is let loose with the cat all the time. The other dog is my sons and she is a submissive female german shepherd and she wants nothing to do with him. this is our daughters dog, he was in a fenced yard but she had a baby and moved. No longer has space for him. he is staying with us until we find him a decent home. He is currently on a 50 cable when outside which is not ideal. When the cable has broken he usually comes back before we find him. He is chipped. He is fine with kids but he can be clumsy when he gets excited. Biggest fear is he might knock the littlest ones down if you try to play with him and get him wound up. he is not great on a leash, but we have not spent any time teaching him. He is ready and willing to learn. He loves the heat, will lay in the sun for hours happily. He will also run as fast as he can on the cable or a fenced yard to basically burn off energy all by himself. Would love to find that perfect home. He is not in danger currently but he looks like a pit bull, in the city of Des Moines, being on a cable is not city code. If we get turned into the city he will have to go to the ARL or be surrendered to someplace. Fenced yard is best. Fine with cats and little kids. Should be good with submissive dogs. He is happy and wonderfully loving dog. We don't have time for him, he gets ignored, he deserves someone that can spend time with him. happy to answer any questions. Come meet him. free to good home.
