About Blaze

Hemingway Polydactyl
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Blaze is a polydactyl kitty whose has neurological problems at least in bottom part of his body and through the back legs and tail. His front paws have deformed extra toes and pads with horns that make it extremely uncomfortable for him to walk, run, jump, etc. He doesn't have the ability to extend or retract ANY of his claws, so he can't climb and he gets caught in carpeting or any material, if his claws are kept constantly clipped (which he HATES!). He had kidney failure a couple of years ago, but, thankfully after 2 rounds of dialysis he was able to gradually fully recover. I have finally found a cat litter that he will use to poop in, however, he will NOT pee in a litter box.. From my observations, when he has occasionally had a runny stools in the litter box, the wet litter, sticks to his paws and the pads on his sore paws & I'm guessing maybe that's why he's not peeing in the litter. I've bought a few long flat plastic storage boxes that I put XL pee pads in and 'trained' him to use them. He likes them to be changed immediately and keep dry (which if I only had 1 cat and didn't have other obligations%BD'%BD|). Also, because of his neurological condition, he doesn't like to be touched. He can feel your energy coming toward him inches before your hand even makes contact with him and it is like an electric shock to him! I've found that having him wear a couple of different quartz collars can actually help to discharge the shock for him so that he can better tolerate being touched, but usually I've found that it's best to get a towel a lay him on it then slowly wrap him up in it (like a burrito) then he actually likes to be held & petted (on the head). I really love my cat & I don't want to give him up, but I'm on disability and my elderly Mom lives with me and I just can't anymore%BD'%BD|
