About Louie

Meet Louie. This happy guy is 5 years old this month and 92 pounds of awesome. He came to us as a wild child out of Rockingham County, NC. After being neutered and making it through heartworm treatment Louie developed into a very good dog. He is extremely intelligent and observant. He thrives on a routine and listens well. He has a good attention span and can maintain focus. He is not easily distracted when he is on task. He can entertain himself. He is completely housebroken. He is crate trained. He sleeps through the night without issue. He is a good eater. He is motivated by food, treats, toys and praise. He is very affectionate with his people. He is not food aggressive or dog aggressive. He loves to play. He likes his toys and his favorite toy is the Duraplay ball. He loves to chase those Duraplay balls. He keeps a running inventory of his toys and will look for missing toys. But he's not perfect. He has a happy tail (because he's a happy guy) and he swings it hard. You will feel it. Because of that we don't recommend him for homes with small children. He doesn't understand the concept of personal space. He likes to give kisses. When he has toys in his mouth he gives nose boops instead. He is afraid of thunder and will cling to you for comfort during a storm. His heartworm infection left him with an enlarged heart so he shouldn't play hard for long stretches. Currently, in the summer heat, he does well with 10-12 runs chasing those Duraplay balls. Louie has been slow to trust people. Adopters should be prepared to take the extra time required to earn his trust because he's worth it.
