About Cookies and Cream

She is about 7 years old, 15 pounds and looks appears to be a Chihuahua mix. Cookie is a classic rescue work-in-progress, and she makes progress every day. Let me tell you some of the great things about Cookie, as well as her opportunities. She is adorable! She is completely potty-trained in my home. She sleeps in her crate overnight, and she sleeps in! She also naps during the day and doesn't seek or need a lot of exercise. She's not jumpy. She walks excellently on a leash and likes to go for a leisurely stroll. She's pretty self-sufficient. She plays with toys independently. Cookie is tentative and takes time to trust and interact. For example, she sometimes sits separate from us in the family room but sometimes nuzzles up behind or beside me. She'll brush up against my leg or hand, but doesn't always want me to reach out to her. Sometimes she wants a scratch behind the ears, other times she may walk in the other direction. She recently started 'nosing' my hand requesting that I pet her. We have discovered that Cookie appears to be deaf and this may explain be why she's sometimes startles or is tentative. Otherwise, it doesn't hinder her and in many ways is a positive -- she almost never barks because she doesn't react to sounds e.g. the delivery person, the mower, thunder, etc. are no problem for Cookie. The key to communicating with Cookie is making eye contact with her. Cookie is super easy to have around. She hasn't gotten into anything she shouldn't. She is smart and understands visual cues like walking to the door or picking up a leash to go out. She was successful the very first time when I challenged her with a hide-and-seek treat puzzle. We regularly work on positive associations and she eagerly and gently takes treats from our hands. Cookie may be your gal if you like to chill out, too, and appreciate the time it may take for her to love you as much as you'll love her. She's looking forward to meeting you! Cookies and Cream is up-to-date on her vaccinations and has been spayed. She has special needs and is best in a home without small children. Cookies and Cream is currently being fostered in Finksburg, MD. All adult dogs, cats, and kittens are altered prior to adoption. Puppies too young to be altered at the time of adoption must be brought to our partner vet in Davidsonville, MD for spay or neuter paid for by Operation Paws for Homes by 6 months of age. Adopters may choose to have the procedure done at their own vet before 6 months of age and be reimbursed the amount that the rescue would pay our partner vet in Davidsonville. This dog's bio is based off the experiences of the foster and/or volunteers of OPH as well as any information that we received from the shelter or previous owner.
