About Fennik

Adoption Fee: $350
Australian Cattle Dog
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Meet Finnik. This handsome guy is just over a year old, weighs 32 pounds, and has a fantastic raccoon tail. Fennik is a gem for folks who know and love the quirks of this breed. Fennik knows sit, down, stay, place, break (as a release), heel, and come. He is crate trained and seems to be house trained. Fennik adores fetch! (Click on red YouTube button to watch him fetch.) He also likes to tug with a ball on a rope. He is vocal when playing, expressing how much he enjoys this type of game. Sometimes he plays keep away, so his family will have to reinforce without playing chase and by asking him to drop it. Like many Cattledogs, Fennik requires a polite introduction to new people. He was likely handled unfairly earlier in life, so his new family has to be solid and benevolent in their leadership style, making sure to give good boundaries. For this reason, he isn't available to homes with kids. For his people, Fennik is a ham! He dances for his favorite people, gives kisses, and is wiggly. Fennik would be a fun adventure partner. He is good on leash and rides well in the car, typically in a crate. He also knows how to swim. Fennik's ideal home is as an only dog or with a dog who leaves him alone. He doesn't like pushy dogs and is not a dog park kind of guy. Also, no cats or small animals! Fennik is not a fan of the vet. I think the vet feels the same way about Fennik! Fennik can be a bit punky, which is part of what we love about this breed. He won't resource guard with a good leader once he builds a bond. It's best to just leave his things alone. Also, he should be loved but not allowed to take over the house. A calm, solid leader will adore this dog. His trainer is a huge fan of Fennik and wished she had room for him at her house. Fennik's new family will fall in love with this special guy. Fennik is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is located in SoCal. Adopters must be able to meet and adopt here. We do not ship our dogs. A vet reference and home visit are required.
