Chihuahua

Hi! My name is Jack and I am bonded with my sister Sally! As in Jack and Sally Skellingon from Nightmare Before Christmas. She's the Yellow pup and I'm the Black and Tan. We MUST be adopted together. We were rescued from a home where the 3rd generation of inbred pups. I had mange and we were clearly in need of medical assistance. Once we were safe in the shelter, then there was a tremendous effort to get us into a rescue who could help us with our issues. The only rescue that stood up was about 800 miles away! With the help of several organizations and volunteers, we made the journey to San Diego. Once there our first appointment was with a Neurologist where we were diagnosed with Cerebellar hypoplasia. This means that our cerebellum is underdeveloped so we are unable to stand or move normally. We have a 'wobble'. There is nothing that can be done to change this and medications don't work. But it's okay, otherwise we are healthy and we are very happy, too! We have been at the rescue for a year now under observation, my coat has grown back and our wobbles have not gotten better or worse, thankfully! While Sally is a bit more stable, I have a tendency to fall a lot - but I don't notice it, I just get right back up and keep going! I am super determined to do it on my own. The rescue feels that now is a good time for us to find the right forever home for us, together! Sally and I love to play together, cuddle together, and be with our people together but we sleep and eat in our own areas. Though I don't need too, I do wear a belly band just in case I have an accident at night, it's been ages since that has happened though. We love to go on walks in our stroller. This allows us to go out, get fresh air, see new things but protects us from getting injured. Being so small, our playtime is exercise enough for us. One of my favorite things to do is play follow the foster mom at dinner time! I have some fears but I am determined to win over them so I run with the pack back and forth from the kitchen to our bowls until we are all fed. While we do get along with others, due to our unique situation, we would do best in a home without young children. We would be okay with another dog as long as they were able to tolerate our occasionally running into them, tripping over them, and they were respectful of our small size. I'm the one most likely to do the bumping into out of the two of us. We are also both potty-trained, pee-pad-trained, and crate trained so if you needed to leave us alone for a while, you can do so with confidence! As young dogs with special needs, we will need to have regular medical checkups. If you think we may be a good match, or you would like to get to know us better, please click the Adoption Application button below my bio on the rescue web site, here is the link - https://www.smallbreedrescue.org/Home/AnimalDetails/3253 They can send you video of how we move too!
