About Blackie

German Shepherd
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Blackie was loyal to his family for 2 years, then his family left him alone and scared at the shelter. He is now set to be put down in the shelter on 7/30 because he's stressed in his kennel. When he 1st arrived, he nicely greeted staff at his kennel, was easy to leash and eager to soak up some pets and attention. The first few days after Blackie realized his family wasn't coming back, he was nervous and wasn't so willing to come out of his kennel and interact with staff. He has since started to settle into the shelter routine and has come out to explore the yard and take in some fresh air. When he is able to feel safe enough to be himself, he is energetic and playful. He enjoys frolicking in the water and loves playing fetch. He would be overjoyed to find a home during the sunny months in Arizona, so he can doggy paddle in a pool or play in the sprinklers. He is only three years old and the shelter has decided to end his life as he has been nervous in the shelter. His family mentioned that Blackie can be an escape artist at times so he will need supervision when he's out. He would thrive in a patient adult home that will give him time to adjust and that understands the loyalty German Shepherds have towards their family. He has not been introduced to any dogs at the shelter, so he would need to be safely kept separate until a slow and proper introduction can be done. He is hoping his new person finds him before it's too late. Let's not fail him again!
