About Teddy

Teddy is a 45 lb, 17 month old healthy and active Australian Cattle Dog/Australian Shepard Mix. He is sometimes referred to as a Tiny Texas Healer. We have had Teddy since he was 11 weeks old. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date on all vaccines and annual exams and is in great health. He eats a very healthy diet. He is completely house trained. Teddy is very active and goes out for 3-4 hours of exercise a day., sometimes more. Teddy loves other dogs, big and small and is very dog social. He is playful, loves to fetch and knows many cues. We have had a consistent science based, positive reinforcement trainer throughout his life. He loves to learn new tricks. He's is an extremely smart dog and is a quick learner. He does well both on leash and in social situations at dog parks, beaches and outdoor day care. He's always been great with our 7 year old daughter. Our trainer describes Teddy as 'very true to his genetics' in that he sensitive to environmental changes. What this mean in our New York City apartment is that Teddy is protective of his home and takes considerable management when new people come into it. He has never bit anyone, but he will bark (and herd!) and so needs to be put away for visitors. Our trainer agrees that Teddy is experiencing daily anxiety and stress in our home and we want to do better for him. He is so smart, and so wonderful outside (and with other dogs) and we are looking for a home for him out of the city, Teddy would love a yard and other dog(s) as playmates. He is great with his family but absolutely will need his new family to understand his breed and genetics. We love him deeply and will keep him until the perfect home is found. We will pay for relocation and anything else that helps make the transition as smooth as possible.
