Who likes playful, kissy dogs?! Willow came from a neglect situation, living in a dirt pen and drinking water from a mud hole (see 3rd photo) along with her siblings and mother. They never got out of that pen for the first 7 months of her life. It was even enclosed on the top. The people just threw dog food into it and put water in a mud hole. Dog warden took the dogs and worked with them at the shelter. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When Willow arrived in foster care and we were surprised at how much progress she made in a short time. Despite the lack of a normal puppyhood, she's affectionate, likes to give kisses, and is quite playful. She lived with other dogs so is fine with dogs. Our cat is less than thrilled with her, so no cats in her forever home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Willow is a sweet and gentle and rambunctious soul despite her past. When she's not playing, she's actually sort of a velcro dog, following her foster mom around the house. I think Willow would be a good match for someone who's looking for a dog to strongly bond and be very connected to you emotionally. It would be great if she could go to work with you or if you work from home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She likes doing obedience training and we're seeking adopters who will definitely continue this with her. It helps her focus and calm down and bond with you. She does like having structure in her life. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She's occasionally a little hand shy or startles, so we think she's not a good fit for children. We are seeking an adults-only home for her preferably with another young playful dog and a securely fenced BIG yard so she never feels confined again. A 4' fence is probably high enough to keep her contained. At first we thought she needed to be placed with one of her siblings, but she's doing really well with Scrappy, a 22 lb terrier foster we have here, so we think she just needs another playful dog in her forever home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She's almost housebroken, having only had a few accidents in foster care. We do have to make sure that when she goes out to potty before bedtime that she actually potties before we let her back in. Then she doesn't have accidents overnight. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- She's not a fan of crating so we only do it for short periods when we have to run errands. We do not crate her at night. She is a chewer (a puppy still in this respect) so needs plenty of toys to chew on and occasional redirection away from things she should not be chewing...back toward her toys. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Due to her desire to bark at noises she hears outside the house, Willow is not suitable for apartment/condo living. A single family home with a nice large fenced yard is the best match for her. We've found that if we leave music playing she's less inclined to notice noises from outside. Indoors she only seems to bark at new things or people that startle her. We've noticed that she barks at the reflection in the powered-off TV at night, so we put it on with an aquarium video playing and then she ignores it. Indoor living is new to her so we expect this sort of behavior to eventually dissipate as she gets used to all the sounds and items in her forever home. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Willow is ready to meet adopters now. Please submit an application if you'd like to meet her. That's the first step in our process. Application: https://form.jotform.com/41555257797165
