About Timmy (Tiny Tim)

Adoption Fee: $300
Chihuahua / Rat Terrier
Age: Adult
Sex: Male

Timmy is a neutered, 5 year old Chihuahua mix. He's a lot of company in a small package. His favorite places to hang out are on your lap, under a soft blanket, or in some rays of sunshine, but whatever he's doing he usually wants to be near you while doing it. Like many Chihuahuas, Timmy knows his own mind and has clear opinions on how things should be. It's important to respect his wishes and get his buy-in before doing anything to him such as picking him up or putting on his harness. While most of the time he acts like a confident dog, inside he's a real softy and shuts down at anything he perceives as the slightest bit harsh, including a raised voice, so he needs to be treated with gentleness, patience, and respect. Timmy has a nice balance between exercise needs and just hanging out. He weighs about 11 lbs, but don't let his small size fool you. He's capable of keeping up with you on a 3 mile hike and enjoys the exercise. He's just as happy going on a walk or hike with you as settling down somewhere warm and comfortable in the house. His small size means he can get some of his exercise needs met from just running around in the house playing chase with you. Timmy has quite the vocal repertoire and we enjoy listening to his barks, whines, chirps, leaky air balloons, and meows, among others. He's an alert little dog and lets us know when someone's coming to the house or walking past, but he's not obnoxiously barky. After he's alert barked for a few seconds and I've acknowledged whatever he's barking at, it's relatively easy to encourage him away from the window in exchange for a treat. He's easy to train and food motivated. He has a basic sit, down, stay, and leave it, is housebroken, and comes when called. He has nice leash walking manners the vast majority of the time, and on the few occasions when he doesn't, all it takes is standing still and waiting for a few moments for him to give in and stop pulling. Timmy is fine with smaller dogs but gets intimidated by anything over about 50 - 60 lbs, and his typical Chihuahua temperament means he'll try to defend himself rather than run away. I have no idea how he would do with cats or other small animals. Timmy needs a home where he is respected as having his own opinions regarding what happens to his body, and he would not do well with small children or anyone who wants to treat him as a plaything.
