About Maverick

Adoption Fee: $500
Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Looking to rehome our pup Maverick (black/white/grey tri in photos). Neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, dewormed, and on monthly heart guard and flea topical meds! Located in Decatur, just east of ATL. We would love for him to go to a home out in the country or on a farm. Our primary reason for rehoming him is a new onset territorial aggression he has shown around strangers. Frankly, this really took us by surprise given how incredible of a dog he has been. Several weeks ago he jumped up and nipped a male visitor at our door. Subsequently, he bit both our neighbors at the door. Finally, he recently bit a stranger who came into the home after we tried to warm him up. Interestingly, he is totally fine around humans who are not his owners once he is warmed up and on good terms. We went and got him neutered directly after the biting incident happened so we are hoping that that will curb some of his behavior and aggression. I believe that a majority of it is centered around territorialism.... he is extremely happy and comfortable at home, and I think that drives him to be protective and territorial of us and our family when strangers visit. He is not a mean hearted, abused, or ill-tempered dog, since his personality does not match at all what happened with the bitings. It just seems that these instances were primarily 'provoked' attacks with strangers entering his space suddenly. It breaks our heart to rehome him because, besides these incidents, he is an extremely loving, docile, sensitive, intelligent, and even somewhat submissive dog (he is definitely the beta compared to his brother). It is very tough to see a dog that is incredible 99.99% of the time but have a .01% incident that leads you to rehome :( He is a healthy weight, is very athletic, has no known health issues other than what is described here, is crate trained (but loves to sleep on the bed at night if you allow him!), is an EXTREME cuddler, is good with livestock from what we have seen (chickens- herds but is not aggressive towards them). He gets along very well with our other dog and we had no issues whatsoever integrating them. He has also been excellent (and again, the beta) with all other groups of dogs he has played with. He is happy to rest at home all day and sit around with other dogs and owners, but also loves to play fetch and do any sort of things outdoors off leash. Needs more leash training, but it is possible to take him on walks. We are asking for the adoption fee because we have put a significant amount of work into him and would just simply like to be compensated- from buying him, to neutering, to vaccines and meds, etc etc, we would just like to get back a little bit to cover the financial burden we took on to get him. Please get in touch with me if you would like him or think you know of someone who would. We would love to see him go to a good home, and it would be even better if he could go to a good home in the country where he has plenty of outside time and there aren't tons of strangers coming and going. Please feel free to email or text/call... we are even willing to make a drive within a decent distance to get him to you!
