About Dixie

We have been lucky enough to foster sweet Dixie because the noise and activity in the shelter became too much for her. When we went for our first walk at the shelter, she was such a Nervous Nellie! But 24 hours in our quiet home revealed a very different pup! Although Dixie is calm and affectionate with us, she takes medication for anxiety that she will probably be on for the rest of her life. She is shy and nervous when meeting new folks and it takes her time to accept and be friendly with new folks. Dixie has an exaggerated startle response to unexpected noises (such as at item being dropped) but tolerates very well routine noises such as the TV, vacuum and hair dryer. Dixie does very well walking on a leash but she does not like to meet other dogs. She needs to be the only pet in an adult-only house. Dixie is VERY well-mannered. She doesn't get into the trash, steal food off counters or make messes. We keep an old blanket on the couch that she is allowed on and Dixie will look at us and wait until we give permission before she gets up on the couch. Dixie goes to the door and STARES at us when she want to go out and potty. Similarly, she stares at us when it it time to eat! And, yes, Dixie sleeps on our bed and but she never hogs the bed! It is very unfortunate that we are unable to adopt Dixie ourselves but please call me if you have any questions about this sweet, sweet girl!!
