ITACHI (Black w/brown purebred Kelpie) - 2 VIDEO LINKS IN PROFILE! Only $45 adoption!!! My adoption profiles tend to be long & very detailed. Please read the ENTIRE Adoption Profile (all the way to the FAQ) so you understand everything about this dog & if you are a good match for him/her. If you still have questions after reading the entire profile, PLEASE also read the FAQ (at the end of this profile) for your answer instead of e-mailing me the question. Most of the questions are answered there, & I'm not always able to answer all the e-mails. . Itachi is a young dog that has already had a really hard start in life. He was originally brought in in really bad shape as an injured stray. He was partially comatose with head trauma that also included a ruptured eardrum, and a fractured tooth. He had a rough time for awhile, but he is now all healed up and has fully recovered. You would never know he went through anything unless you were told his story. On top of that, he was also very hand shy when he first came here, and it is clear that whoever had him originally was not very nice to him. . Itachi is super smart and very loyal to his person. He is a ball of energy, and needs an active person that will take him on long walks. After a good dose of exercise, he loves to cuddle up with you for a little tv time! He would be a great companion dog, as he always wants to be with you! . He loves to train, is eager to please, and seeks attention. He's very treat motivated, so that makes it easier to train. So far he knows Good boy (I also clap and give lots of praise), No, Inside, Outside, Go potty, Sit, lay down, Stay, Come (or you can call his name), Shake, This way, Wait, Ok, and Get it. Words are explained in more detail farther down below under 'BASIC TRAINING'... . We also play the 'Get it' game every morning. Where I throw food around. When it lands in a not-so-obvious place, I will tell him 'Get it', and then he knows he needs to look for something. It is a great game for him because active dogs need both physical and mental stimulation. Playing this game is great mental stimulation because he has to chase the food, or find the food. He also came in very skinny, so he was food deprived for awhile, and therefor would gobble his food down to fast. This game also helps him slow down when eating. Which is better for his digestion. Here is a video of us playing it: https://photos.app.goo.gl/63kSCDo3uW1hNAqy7 New photo added to shared album photos.app.goo.gl . Itachi is very sweet, goofy and playful once he gets to know you and is comfortable. He loves balls and playing fetch. He also loves rope toys and squeaky toys. He doesn't chew the stuffed animals, but he does need to be supervised with the tennis balls, or he will pull the fuzz off them if not watched (which could be a choking hazard). A durable Kong ball would solve that problem. . Because it is clear that someone abused him at some point, he was uncomfortable being touched when he first came here. He did not understand what I was doing. He would lip lick and freeze a bit. Both of which are signs of a dog being very uncomfortable. So I made it a point to handle him every day so he gets used to it and it becomes no big deal. I pick up his legs, touch ears, etc... This is good also so he is comfortable when he goes to the Vet. He now is much more comfortable and lets me handle him completely. . It's so very clear that the previous owner abused him. When he first got here, he thought he was in trouble for everything (when he's not). And he over-reacted to a firm 'No' when he first got here. He has learned now that 'No' just means 'No', and that no one is going to ever hurt him here. . Itachi looks to be a purebred Kelpie. Here is a short video with info on his breed: https://youtu.be/DDaBJOMdOsY Dogs 101 - Australian Kelpie For more, visit http://animal.discovery.com/tv/dogs-101/#mkcpgn=ytapl1 | Need to get a job done? Call an Australian Kelpie. youtu.be . He has a double thick short coat that should be brushed at least once a week. More if you want... He was scared of the brush when I first got it out. So I brushed him in short bursts and made it fun and pet him and I always give him lots of praise when I brush him. He now associates being brushed as a good thing, and is very easy to groom. Brushing is also a great bonding experience for everyone involved if you make it fun for him. . ESTIMATED BIRTHDAY: 9/03/19 1 yrs old. . WEIGHT AT LAST VET VISIT: 35 lbs. . CATS: No cats, he tries to chase them on walks. . SMALL DOGS: He is the most comfortable around small dogs and is friendly with them. Previous foster reported that he gets possessive of his toys and food with other dogs though, so that is why I have him listed as an only dog. Because working with that is typically beyond the expertise of the average adopter. Even if he behaves well with me...dogs will act different around different people. . LARGE DOGS: He is more fearful around lar
