Beagle / Harrier

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This little peanut is Riley! He is a 10-year-old beagle/harrier, currently living in Herndon, VA. He can heel, sit, stay, and climb. He loves a good game of tug of war, ripping open his stuffed toys, and using his nose to hunt for hidden treats! Riley loves his people more than anything and always wants to be around them. He is content to be wherever you are, snuggled up against you on the couch, or under your feet at your desk. When his family is home, he is calm, quiet, and content - he is exceptionally cuddly. I am seeking a new home for Riley because my girlfriend of six years and I recently broke up. Riley was her dog initially, but he became ours during the relationship. After our split, my ex could not take him, and I cannot afford to give him the time and attention he needs and deserves on my own. Historically, Riley's isolation anxiety has had the biggest impact on his wellness, but he has been trained in the past to be left alone for 4-6 hours at a time. Ideally, the perfect home for Riley would be one in which someone is home most of the time and there are no other pets or small kids. He is usually fine with kids but he can be food aggressive, so it is best to be safe. Riley has epilepsy and takes potassium bromide/phenobarbital for treatment. He used to average about one seizure every other month, but it has been several months now since his last one. He never loses consciousness or control of bowel/bladder. His seizures last about seven minutes and involve involuntary motor dysfunction. He will let you know when he is about to seize by rushing over to you as it starts. Afterwards, he is a little tired and thirsty. This really isn't very expensive to keep up with, but I am willing to set up a fund with a vet of your choice to cover the expenses of his care initially. Riley is one of the sweetest, cuddliest dogs I have ever known and would make a great addition to the right home. Please let me know if you are interested in becoming his new family!
