About Otis

Adoption Fee: $425
Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Otis is a 7 month old standard red tri Aussie puppy with beautiful soft light hazel green eyes. He is what can sometimes be a rare find in the rescue world- he's easy-going, (and not easily bothered by older rude, grumpy Aussies), playful, smart, and surprisingly laidback- for an Aussie puppy. Despite his unsettled life journey up until now, he's still a sweet boy who takes life in stride. He is smart enough to not often charge blindly into new situations, but also is ready to be very friendly if all is well. He is picking up on his training well and learns quickly, especially if there is another trained dog in the house for him to observe (like the older, grumpy Aussie in his foster home). We are working on leash manners and not pulling. He came knowing that when the leash holder stops, he does too and sits on a loose leash like a good boy. The rest is still a work in progress! He loves chasing a tennis ball (and brings it back a lot of the time, haha) and playing tug of war. He is also housetrained (with the rare, expected puppy accident or 'human wasn't paying attention when he sat by the door' accident). He can also do a little, rare, submissive puppy peeing when he first comes in the home, or when someone comes in the door who he's excited to see, but that has settled down now that he's been in his foster home for a while and decompressed. Like a lot of puppies, Otis can tend to get carsick (once per trip), but that can be handled with a Benadryl 30 minutes before leaving the house. He is fine in his foster home with dog savvy cats and loves playing with them, though he will give chase if they run. He also knows that if the kitty rolls over and shows him his claws, the cat is done, haha. His foster family has a cat who grew up with a foster Aussie puppy, and he and Otis have a good time together (on a side note, if needed, he can be tested with chickens). Otis is crate trained, and enjoys hanging out or napping in his crate. He goes into it frequently on his own during the day for a nap or to chew on his favorite fake wood stick. He sleeps in it well at night, too, and is ready to see it (and a cookie) whenever you are ready for bedtime, if not sooner- he's a growing boy who needs his sleep! Due to Otis still working on learning not to play with his mouth (but making progress) and basic manners, (and his still being an enthusiastic, impressionable puppy), no children under 10 years are recommended. A fence is also a requirement, as he needs space to run off his energy with a furry sibling, chase frogs, play ball, etc. Otis is an eager learner, a sweet boy, a lot of fun and all Aussie! He is being fostered near Birmingham, Alabama, and is available through Australian Shepherds Furever. If you think Otis is a good fit for your family, please fill out our application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $50 neuter deposit that will be refunded upon proof of neuter.
