About Ember

Ember is a 5 year old female Rottweiler. She weighs 89 pounds. Ember is a pretty special girl. A volunteer with The Retrievers, a group in Minnesota that helps find lost dogs found Ember while looking for another lost dog at a commercial property outside Long Grove, Minnesota. She was living under a trailer. The owners of the commercial property said she had been there all winter. We can only imagine how cold Ember was without shelter. The volunteer with The Retrievers walked back across the highway to leave the site and Ember followed her. She put Ember in her truck and took her home. We were asked to rescue her and drove half way to meet her. We tucked Ember into her foster home and worked to gain her trust. It's taken her time to feel comfortable living inside a home. We suspect she has been outside all her life. Ember is a sweetheart who just wants to be loved. She will sit on your feet and gaze into your eyes adoringly hoping to be petted. She is very affectionate. She has had puppies in the past and was positive for Lyme disease and Ehrlychia - both tick borne diseases. She was treated with doxycycline. Ember's foster home has two male Rottweilers who have been great role models for her. They have taught her how to be a dog. Ember has learned so much by emulating their behavior. She learned to sit for a treat, not to freak out when there was a sudden noise, and how to climb in bed and snuggle with a human. When she is unsure of a situation, she follows their lead. She is playful with them and enjoys being part of a pack. We have learned so much about Ember while she has been with us. She is going to need a special home. Ember needs a physically fenced yard, a privacy fence would be ideal. Ember was on her own for a long time and had to hunt for her food. She is not good with cats, she views them as prey. She is also not good with female dogs and can spot a female at 20 feet. Ember would do well as an only dog or with a male. When you gain Ember's trust, she loves you unconditionally. Her favorite place is sitting at the feet of the human she adores looking into their eyes. When Ember's foster parents are at work Ember is left loose in their home, she has been a good girl. Ember is house trained, spayed, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested and microchipped.
