About Tabitha

Courtesy post-New Jersey Everyone meet Tabitha aka Tabbi. Tabbi is a 4 year old 'Aussie mix' was surrendered to the animal shelter at 8 months old and has been there ever since. When she arrived her owners dumped her off with gauze tied around her muzzle, stating she was mean. Tabitha has zero bite history and although she takes a little to warm up after a slow introduction, she's a very sweet, loving and well mannered dog. Tabitha knows sit, stay, come, down, paw and walks well on the leash. She is housebroken and very good in the house. The volunteers have taken her home overnight. Although she is working her way through training, and has great manners in the home, she will need a dedicated owner or foster to continue working towards her confidence. She does well with male dogs when introduced properly. She will be best in a home without children and where there will be low traffic. She has some triggers. She is reactive in crate, she does protect the shelter grounds by barking to deter, shopping carts, canes, walkers and children running around, but does not bite. She barks and scares people. When I met with her they told me she may be reactive. She showed zero reactivity to me aside from her initial reaction in kennel. She walked past me outdoors and did not approach to nudge, bark or lunge. Within 2 minutes she became my friend. The shelter has a trainer working with her on her triggers, but the shelters goal is to get her in a foster or permanent home. When I arrived to evaluate her, the minute I said I was there to try and help Tabitha as well as meet her, the entire staff cried! The shelter loves her more than anything and are grateful we are trying to cross post her for a home. If you can foster or adopt her she is at Mt Pleasant Animal Shelter in East Hanover NJ.
