We do our best to screen these dogs, but make no guarantees regarding the information posted.** Jake is a very handsome fellow who has been diagnosed with PRA. His family adopted him from an individual out of state, and did not know he had PRA. They work stock and are worried he will get hurt because of his limited vision (he has less than 20% vision in one eye and is completely blind in the other). They also write, 'He loves attention and does seem to lean on his humans as well as other dogs for him to find his way. But for being almost blind, he runs through the grass hay fields with tons of spirit and happiness. He is a sweet, gentle, obedient dog.' They have reached out to other rescues, but have not yet had any luck. Name: Jake Age: two years Sex: Male (not neutered) Breed: Border Collie Location: La Plata County, CO Vet Info: Jake is not neutered. He is up to date on vaccines and heartworm negative - Rabies: good until Dec 2021; Distemper: DHLPP: good until 4-27-24. HW test: negative; re-test on : 4-27-22 On HW prevention; no other med conditions noted. Jake has been diagnosed with PRA and is almost completely blind. His owners write that based on their vet's assessment, he will be completely blind within six months or less. Jake weighs about 36 pounds. Dog Info: Jake is an outdoor dog with a fenced yard. His owners tell us he is housebroken and leash trained. Jake is a smart fellow and knows several commands including, Sit, Stay, Lie Down, Hike (to get in a vehicle or on the sofa), and Wait. Jake is good with both men and women, and male and female dogs. He currently lives with two female dogs and is good with the neighbor's intact male dog. Jake may bark if one of the dogs gets too close to him when he is eating, but he has never bitten or snapped. Jake's owner feels he adapts well to new situations and gave us more details: 'If you are calm with him and reassure him and love on him, he wants to please you.
