About J J

Havanese / Schnauzer
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

We believe JJ is a magnificent mix of Havanese / Schnoodle (schnauzer poodle)... HavaShnoodle! He's a young boy, right around a year old. This absolutely beautiful baby spent the bulk of his young life outside and chained to a tree. When we took him in, he had wounds that were likely from being attacked by a large dog (he does NOT like large dogs and there cannot be large dogs in the home). His hair was so matted, it took over four hours to groom him. He had rock-solid mattes in his ears and we removed all we could; he received veterinary care for his wounds and antibiotics for the infection therein, and at the same time, they carefully removed the remainder of hard matting in his ears. Now on to the good part! When JJ's initial groom was completed, he still donned his sad demeanor, but once he got in the water for a bath, it was within 3 minutes that he realized something good was happening. He actually seemed to enjoy his bath (and wow was he beautiful and white!). Then his puppy play was visible. He pranced around like he was a brand new dog with a fresh and free life... no more chains, no more heavy filthy itchy matted hair stuck to his skin! Foster mama taught JJ to sit and he's also learned to lie down. Treats help :) He loves people but can take a bit of time to warm up. Any children in the home should be at least 12 years old and patient and respectful in nature. Another small dog in the home would help with JJ's confidence and his comfort in meeting new people. ** If you don't have another dog, check out Trooper! He and JJ are in foster together and they love playing together -- too much fun! ** His new family should be patient and understanding as he will be barky and defensive whenever new guests come to the home. He may grow out of this, but at least initially his family will need to do slow introductions to help him feel comfortable. We can talk about this... He has been vet-checked, groomed, neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He goes to his new home with collar and ID tag, harness and leash. We'd like him to have a home with a yard. He is not a candidate for apartment or condo living or dog parks. He must have his own yard, and he deserves grass (not gravel, cement, and pavers, please). Please keep in mind he was living amidst dirt and rock, chained to a tree. We want the complete opposite for the rest of his life. Think of 'doggy dream home' -- that's what we want for him. We can set up a meet & greet upon approved application. Please email to request one.
