Courtesy Posting: YOUNG PUREBRED CHOW AT IRVINE SHELTER NEEDS RESCUE ASAP DUE TO BEHAVIOR, WAS AT LA SHELTER BEFORE, NOW NAMED SMOKEY (WAS MIDNIGHT) - NEEDS CHOW SAVVY RESCUE AND FOSTER AND PLEDGES MIDNIGHT - ID #A127033 Irvine Shelter, Irvine, So Cal This handsome young chow ended up a few months back at the South LA Shelter scared and having anxiety. We were told his owner came for him after being neutered. At that time, all we knew was that his name was Midnight and he was 3 years old. Then, he showed up about two months later at the Irvine shelter completed freaked out and surrendered by someone who claimed to have adopted him, knew the former owner, and said they moved. They said his name was Smokey and that he had acted aggressively. We do not know what this handsome smaller chow of 42 lbs has been through, but he looked much happier back in March, and looks more neglected and stressed now. The prior shelter reported that he was nervous and flinchy and wanted to give him anxiety meds. See before and after pictures. Using his original name of Midnight, he is being your typical freaked out chow in a shelter, barking and growling, barring teeth at times, with ears back, a sign of fear. The shelter did sit down for a few minutes outside his kennel, and then he stopped, wagged his tail and enjoyed a treat. However, the Irvine shelter is understaffed and does not have the means to handle or train this dog. They are looking for a chow savvy rescue to step in asap. Midnight is listed now as a new ID (A127033) and only 2 years old at the Irvine shelter. We are looking for a chow savvy foster or foster-to-adopt, but he may need to go to training first, and I can also track or raise pledges if there is a reputable rescue on board.
