FRIENDLY W PEOPLE/FINE W OTHER DOGS, VIDEOS DONNALEE - ID #A0774477 Contra Costa Shelter, Martinez, CA Please help us find a rescue and foster or foster to adopt for a 12 year sweet and friendly girl named Donnalee, listed as a chow/golden retriever but may also be part newfie (she is 85 lbs). Donnalee is Rescue only after a very unfortunate mishap and isolated situation it seems. This poor dog's owner had Alzheimer's and was unable to care for her, so the son was supposed to take of her- but didn't. It is unclear how hungry or not she was, but the caretaker came and tried to then help. The caretaker oftentimes brought her small dog along and the two did fine together in the past. However, the caretaker made the mistake of giving both dogs treats together, and Donnalee bit the smaller dog over the treat. In the process of trying to separate and pick up her dog, the caretaker got bit in the foot, but admits she does not know what or how it happened. Maybe the treat fell on her foot, who knows. The injury did not require sutures. This dog has not displayed aggression to people in the past or now, was likely just hungry, and is very treat motivated per the shelter (so not a good idea to have given the treat around a small dog in the first place, the caretaker probably didn't know, may have some resource guarding and needs to be separated at feedings perhaps). But now poor Donnalee finds herself at the Contra Costa shelter in Martinez, CA. They can see she is a nice dog, enjoys being pet, and wants to be near people. The shelter has reached out and is asking for a rescue to step up, so we are looking for a foster, foster foster or foster to adopt to refer and pair with a willing rescue. We have a number of videos of Donnalee, and one with her and another dog. She has been fine with dogs at the shelter so far, and in the past, other than this isolated incident/mishap. We have various videos, her medical and behavior notes. Donnalee has age related arthritis common for a dog this age, as well as 2 mammary masses and a growth under his chin that should be checked out and or removed, and hopefully benign.
