About KC

KC is a sweet, 10-month old goofball who loves exploring, playing with other dogs, and doing everyday life with her people. Since arriving in Colorado from Texas, she's really embraced life here and is the perfect Colorado adventure buddy. Camping, hiking, scrambling over rocks, climbing, you name it--she's up for it all! And she'll crash hard and snuggle with you once you get back to the couch, tent, or wherever. If she's not tired yet and you are, she's really good at entertaining herself with a good chew toy. 10-hour car rides? No problem because she knows you're taking her somewhere fun! KC is still a puppy and learning, so needs a family willing to continue working on training with her. She also gets stressed easily, so will need some patience as she transitions to a new home. She is especially weary of strangers, so a quieter home that doesn't have a lot of people coming in and out would be better for her--although her past is a mystery, we think it must have included some human abuse (she gets really scared if you hold a stick up in the air, which is so sad!). Mixed breed, about 45 pounds. She's definitely got terrier, and has hound qualities too. Together, these give her a very high prey drive. All the bunnies and squirrels in our neighborhood make it hard for her to focus when walking on leash, but she is slowly getting better and learning not to pull. She has lived well with some cats but not all. We think she could live with a dog-friendly cat in her forever home, but it may take a lot of patience (like a few months) for her to entirely stop trying to chase. She loves kids but would need to ensure things are calm and not overwhelming for her at first (kids with experience being around rescue dogs and giving them space would be ideal). At this time, we believe she would do best in a home with another calm, confident dog who can show her the ropes and help her adjust to her new environment. She is also very social and needs to play with other dogs every day to really thrive. She's really great with other dogs, very submissive. Spayed, UTD on shots, crate-trained, house-trained. Knows basic commands (sit, lay down, wait, stay, come), and now working on doing them consistently once distractions are added. KC is currently fostered in Lafayette, CO.
