About Robin

Adoption Fee: $200
Rat Terrier mix
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Age charts would definitely classify this 4-year-old rat terrier mix as an adult (a thirtysomething in human years), but Robin is really just a big baby. He whimpers when he is upset, doesn't like to share his toys, wants to be the center of your attention (preferably in your lap), and complains when another dog tries to crowd in during snuggle time. Although he weighs only 13 lbs., he thinks he can do everything the bigger dogs do, but then he tattles (by squawking piteously) when he thinks they're being too rough. However, Robin is so much more than a bratty crybaby! He also has qualities that you would expect to see in only the best, brightest, and most beautiful babies. He's adorably cute with big innocent eyes; he'll squeal in absolute delight when you get home, and he'll love you like you're the center of the universe. In addition, Robin has apparently committed to memory the lesson about being wary of strangers, as he reliably barks at newcomers and warns them off if they try to get close too fast. But being a friendly guy at heart, he can't stay standoffish very long, and within a few minutes he will find himself lounging comfortably in the newcomer's lap. Like most babies, Robin doesn't like to be left alone and initially cries when confined to his 'crib,' but he then settles down for a quiet nap. He has been known to throw a tantrum when he is required to do something against his wishes, but with smart parenting he can be jollied out of it and persuaded that being a 'big boy' makes Mommy or Daddy happy (and does he love praise!). Because Robin hasn't always been able to trust that people will handle him properly and has lashed out when someone hasn't been gentle, he shouldn't share a home with young human siblings. When he first came to foster care, Robin had to go through remedial potty training, but once he figured out the household routine, he stopped having accidents. Robin loves playing with his stuffed monkey, going for walks, getting snacks, and keeping your lap warm at every opportunity.
