About Gryff

Chow Chow
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

I am reaching out in a last attempt to find a home for one of our boys. I have exhausted every option you can think of. Over eight chow rescues across the U.S., sought out any individual I know personally who might have a place, and have reached out to the breeder multiple times and begged them to take him back. A little back story - I rescued him from a foster home back in 2018 when he was 8 months old and as I'm sure you can imagine, his bad habits and behaviors were already well established by this point in time. He was placed with a foster due to his original owner being stationed on a military base and being unable to take him with him. Shortly after I rescued him, I came to find out that he had actually bitten a little girl and that is why he was not allowed on the base. Over the course of the last three years I have done all you can think of. Hired a very experienced army k-9 trainer. Sought out behaviorists, had blood work/tests done, and now we are finally at a point where euthanizing him is our only option left. He has a bite history of 11 total incidents, 9 total people. These people include myself, who he knows as mom, and my boyfriend, who he knows as dad. For a long time, any incident that happened I could justify - as in, someone was doing something they weren't supposed to do - approaching him. My boyfriend has now been bit 4 times, I have been bit once. I was fully aware of chow temperaments before rescuing him as I grew up in my family home with nothing but the chow breed. We had a family chow who also had a bite streak, but it was never towards her own family. He had never been dog aggressive before. One year into rescuing him, we also rescued a 10 week old male chow who quickly grew to become his bestie. They are inseparable. This past November, we rescued a third male who is very submissive and not at all an alpha. Gryff, has now attacked him on 2 different occasions. We are at a point where our hands are becoming tied. We love him more than anything in this world and do not want to put him down, but he is a liability. It terrifies me to think that in a few years we will have babies in our home and that he would never be trustable around them. I would never be able to live with myself if he got one of my own babies or heaven forbid, someone else's. I am begging you all - if you know of anyone or any place that would be willing to take him, my gratitude would be forever endless.
