About Ragnar

Adoption Fee: $100
American Bulldog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

Meet Ragnar, American Bulldog, roughly 120lb, 5 yrs old this month, neutered, and in need of a single dog home. It is with the heaviest of heart and the hardest decision our family has had to make to let go and give him a different situation where he can thrive with a family as the only pet. First, the issue at hand and why he needs to be rehomed. We have had him from 8 weeks to five years old. We have learned the hard way that he needs to be top dog in a single pet home. He has fought our other male several times and the last two times has put him into emergency surgery. He currently has no issue with our female, but we can not confidently say he will be this way with other female dogs. No other animals, children or people have ever been hurt. We are working on his leash training as over the years he has become a handful when another dog approaches. This is trainable and I have been working with him on this. Do not let this scare you. Our vet and several other large breed professionals agree...He is a great dog that will thrive in a single dog home where he can be honored as the top dog he is. If you understand dog behavior and you are able to give him a single dog situation and the time he needs on leash training, then keep reading....he's worth it. Now for all the good he is and has brought to our family. Ragnar is BIG and has the most playful and loving personality. He LOVES balls, water from the hose and his tug toy. He also loves people. People bring him the greatest joy. While he has a lot of energy, he will not pester you to play. He will sleep at your feet, chill indoors or out and be completly content. He grew up with my 3 sons. Its always been good to see how careful he's been with the kids and knowing their size while playing. He is good with visitors. We have people over all the time as our family lives in Utah and we are in Arizona. He doesnt mind meeting new people. No food aggression. He eats well side by side with the other two. We can give him a treat and take it away just as easily. He sleeps on my kids beds occasionally, but his favorite place is on this old couch cushion on our bedroom floor. Its big and thick and he hangs half way off it. Its his bed and he will go straight to it when you tell him to 'go to bed'. *he also snores....loudly sometimes* Health, Etc. He is currently on the heavy side. Could lose 10ish lbs. I swear COVID did us all in, even him. He has one brown eye and the other is partially blue. We believe the coloring of the one eye may cause a glare and interferes with his vision. You will see this when he is looking past you and not at you when you have a treat or are talking to him. He has scars. Because of his fights. Mostly his hair has grown back and covered them, but some are still visible and you can feel them on his face and chest. The main photo listed here was taken the day after his last fight. As you can see he is still beautiful. He is due for vaccinations this summer. Things we will send with him. Leash and collar. It is a plastic spike collar that helps control the pull. He only wears it when being walked, its cruel to leave it on. We tried gentle leaders, but they bloodied his nose as he has blood vessels very close to the top/outside of his nose. Pulling harness. I bought him a harness to pull a tire. He wears it fine. Kennel. He has had the same extra large kennel since he was small, he does well in it. Its a collapsable wire one. When assembled we zip tie the edges just so he cant push on the sides and cause it to collapse or escape. Tug Toy. He loves it and its meant for a dog like him to bite and pull. Bed. Its big and ugly, but it will help the transition. He loves it! We currently live in Arizona and my husband travels to Utah often for work. He can drive Ragnar up with everything that is his if you decide you can provide the perfect opportunity and family for him. I have listed him at $100 just to know you are invested in him. Yes, we are basically giving him away, but we want what is best for everyone.
