About Braxton

Chihuahua / Shetland Sheepdog
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE BIO ON THIS DOG BEFORE REQUESTING AN APPLICATION. MANY OF OUR DOGS HAVE STRICT REQUIREMENTS FOR THEIR ADOPTION. 3 Year old Sheltie/Chihuahua Mixed Breeds male, about 25 pounds. Firm Requirements: 1. Needs a fenced yard and dog door. 2. Need special behavioral care - Fearful but gentle dog. 3. Children over 12 years of age. Braxton (Brax) is a beautiful mixed breed dog that is adjusting to a new lifestyle and will need his furever home to be with understanding people that want to help him make this transition with love and patience. Brax is housebroken, mature, quiet and actively uses the dog door to the fenced back yard at his foster home. Brax spends a good deal of his day in the yard, and he enjoys the freedom to let himself in/out as needed. At night, he sleeps in his dog bed and enjoys being near his humans, but not touching them. Braxton is shy. He had limited socialization with new people early in his life and he is slow to trust new humans now - Brax loves to lay in his dog bed and watch TV with the family in the living room. He loves having his humans nearby, but if you walk up to him directly, he will run away because he's scared. He needs positive reinforcement training over the long term to help him. It's important to note that Brax is gentle and that even when fearful, he has not shown any aggressive or harmful reaction, other than to run away. The foster home reports that they have been able to gain his trust, and that they have trimmed his hair, taken him on walks and that he loves car rides. Brax was raised with cats, and is living with 2 other small dogs at his foster home. He is obviously a long haired dog and will shed hair. His cute little pink/salmon nose needs sunscreen. Would you like to give Braxton the love he needs? Adoption contract and fee applies. All adoptable dogs can be met at adoption events hosted every weekend. For a list of scheduled events go to: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/events . Smidget Rescue is not a shelter, and dogs cannot be seen at the Rescue location. All dogs are fostered throughout the Puget Sound area and are brought to the events where they can be met by prospective adopters. Additional pictures of adoptable dogs can be seen at: https://www.facebook.com/SmidgetRescue/photos_stream?tab=photos_albums. All adoptable dogs are spayed or neutered at 6 months of age or older, and always before being placed in their new homes. APPLICATIONS CAN BE OBTAINED BY EMAIL ONLY. Adoption process includes application, meet & greet, home visit and reference check. Email Jamie at [email protected] or click on the CONTACT link on this page. PLEASE DOUBLE CHECK YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS BEFORE SENDING. We get a fair number of incorrect emails and Jamie is not able to contact potential adopters. Notice: We do not ship dogs out of state. If you live within a five-hour radius of Seattle, WA, (such as Portland, Vancouver B.C., etc.), we can arrange for a home visit. If your home seems like a great fit for the dog you would like to adopt, you must then drive to meet the dog at one of our weekend events or at the fosters home.
