About Dixie

Jack Russell
Age: Senior
Sex: Female

Looking to REHOME our sweet 10yo wire-haired Jack Russell, 'Dixie' ~must be ONLY pet in the home and children of all ages are fine! Dixie joined our family in January 2021 as a potential companion to our 9yo female Jack Russell. At first, they got along beautifully, but now, Dixie has asserted she plans to be the only female dog in charge. Honestly, it just is not working out for the 2 female dogs. Sadly, after, many trials and tribulations, we can not allow her to remain in our home despite how cute she is and how much we all love her %BD%BD%BD%BD%BD%9D%A4%BD%BD%8F%BD%BD%90 Dixie would be perfect for a family with NO pets! She is an amazing cuddler, playful, hunter, (but won't dig up your yard) beautiful markings, and talented young at heart, 10yo Jack Russell. She is not a jumper, like most JR's. Generally speaking, for her breed, Dixie is overweight (roughly 28#'s in May 2021), needs lots of exercise, healthy prepared meals (or) weight reducing dog food, and tons of love. She is able to go up and downstairs, jump up onto the couch, and jump up on our bed using our bench seat. Dixie has a lipoma (fatty cyst) on her underbelly from normal aging, a large fat pad on her rear end, and a small wart on her neck (easily hidden by her fur). Able to provide pictures of each. ALL BENIGN per our vet, just cosmetic in nature. Otherwise, she has ZERO medical issues, except the need to reduce her weight with appropriate food, and need for exercise. She requires ZERO medications except monthly heartworm and flea preventatives. She turned 10yo on 3/2/21. Her previous owner said Dixie has an allergy to both chicken and turkey and severely itches these meats are consumed. So, we have avoided both, but have given her eggs and all dairy, which she has had NO issues with and her coat/skin is in terrific condition! We have taken PHENOMENAL care of this sweetie since adopting her from her one, and only owner back in January. The situation: Her initial owner was/is a full time caregiver to her terminally ill Aunt with end-stage cancer and had to move into a one bedroom apartment that prohibited animals. It was an incredibly difficult decision for her, but she did what was best for Dixie and her family. Dixie has seen our vet @ Patrick Vet Clinic in downtown Charleston, SC, for a thorough physical exam. She is UTD on ALL vaccinations (except kennel cough- we didn't plan to board her), she is spayed, microchipped, and has had a complete health physical; whereas, our vet has done needle biopsies of ALL areas of concern listed above, found ALL are BENIGN and do not need to be removed, and she is in great health, including teeth. She is house-trained, leash-trained, and has never destroyed anything our home. She has a full box (6 chewables) of monthly heartworm (Hartgard) prevention and will need a new box of monthly flea prevention soon (Nexgard). ALL her medical records leash, collar, harness, dog bowls/stand, will go with her. We would like to find her a home where someone is able to travel to us in Charleston, SC, meet Dixie and our family, and take her home, if decided, she is a good match. Our criteria for a potential adopter includes: Quality time to spend with her, time to exercise and walk her, a safe fenced-in yard, someone who has read about or knows the Jack Russell breed, and, or, has owned a Jack Russell in the past. If you are interested in adopting Dixie, please reach out to me! Thanks so much!
