About Maddie

Cocker Spaniel / Boston Terrier
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

Meet Maddie!! If you are looking for the cutest dog with a goofy, quirky, downright funny personality then look no further than Maddie! Maddie is a 4 year old Cocker Spaniel that looks to be mixed with Boston Terrier who has shiny black fur with white highlights and the cutest freckles! Maddie came into rescue with her friend Rosie after having a not great start to life. We don't know much about Maddie's first home except that she lived there for close to two years. That first owner was moving and gave her and Rosie to a co-worker who kept them for 4 months before they came to us. When we went to retrieve them (in the parking lot of a Dollar General) they were brought to us in a large crate which would have been okay except that they were covered in their own urine and were soaking wet. The previous family said that they were never allowed in the house and were either chained up in the yard or more than likely spent an excessive amount of time in the crate. They both smelled terribly as they must have gotten wet and dried and wet and dried several times. The reason they were letting them go was that they didn't have time and also because they had another dog who was not neutered and were afraid of them becoming pregnant. As soon as they came into rescue they were groomed and felt a million times better. They also love being inside and being part of a household. Their foster Mom is also a dog trainer so she has been helping them understand what it is like to be a part of a pack, learning boundaries and that they are safe and loved. They are also learning basic commands and are doing great! Maddie LOVES toys, makes the silliest faces and has a great little underbite. Although Maddie is good with many dogs she would be best suited as an only dog or with a male dog. Her adoption fee includes the following: 1. Up to date vaccines including rabies. 2. Spay 3. Deworming 4. Microchip 5. Some basic training 6. Collar and leash 7. Starter food An adoption fee does apply. As we prescreen via email ONLY (we do NOT make or receive phone calls in the pre-screening phase) please tell us a bit about you such as: 1. Your lifestyle, activity level and work schedule. 2. Area you live in and if it is a house or apartment. 3. How many adults, children and pets in the household. 4. Where your pet stays when you are out or at work. 5. Where your pet will sleep. 6. Breed experience. 7. If you do not have a dog your plans to keep her socialized. ***Please note*** Maddie is not in Bakersfield but in Orange County. She can either be seen there or will be brought to her prospective adopter's home for the meet and greet/adoption. Some notes to consider before applying for Maddie: 1. Maddie is part Cocker Spaniel and as such will require ongoing groomings. 2. Please make sure you are ready to adopt before coming to see our adoptable dogs. We are a foster based rescue and do not have the space to hold dogs for a couple of weeks while you vacation or make your way to California to come and adopt. We will adopt out of state but ONLY if the potential adopter comes here to adopt in person and that is after a screening by Skype. WE DO NOT SHIP DOGS EVER. 3. We are often inundated with emails about our adoptable dogs and try as we might to make everyone happy it is nearly impossible with only one dog and sometimes up to 50 potential families. The more information you provide in your email to us the quicker we will get back to you. If you have written to us before about a particular dog and did not receive a response please do try again. We try to answer every email but it is not always possible. Every dog has different home requirements that we search for so sometimes you are the right fit for the dog we are trying to place. 4. As we have had some confusion as to our adoption process please note: Once we receive an email from you, IF we feel it fits the criteria we are looking for we will email back with a bit more specific information. From there if you are still interested we may or may not move ahead with a phone screen and then a meet and greet. Once we schedule a meet and greet more often than not the adoption takes place with the family we have chosen but it is NOT a guarantee as we do NOT adopt first come first serve. Our first commitment is to the well being of the dog as we back all the dogs we place for life. Thank you for choosing to adopt!
