About Casper

Adoption Fee: 500
British Shorthair
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Male

We have had Casper since he was four months old. While we did not know it at the time, he came from a disreputable breeder who pulled him away from his mom at birth. Because of this, Casper does have some codependency issues. A behavioralist advised us to get him a companion-unfortunately, this was bad advice. We have tried to successfully integrate the two of them for the last year to no avail. We love Casper, but we feel he deserves a home where he can be the center of attention. Some of the codependency issues: - He's an extremely loving cat who requires a lot of affection. He will ask to be cradled like a baby throughout the day-he loves to hang out over your shoulder. In the mornings he loves to sit on your chest and purr and rub on your face. He's really very sweet. - He also has a ton of energy! He needs someone who is home enough to play with him for 10-15 minutes at least twice a day. - He gets bored easily, and does much better when there are plenty of windows for him to look out of and see activity. - He does not like other cats. Trust us. We have tried every kind of cat, with every kind of method (yes, the Jackson Galaxy method) - he does not like other cats. He needs to be in a single-cat household. (He doesn't have much experience with dogs.) In addition to his social issues, Casper was born with some health complications. Sadly, this information was not disclosed to us before adoption. We have figured these things out ourselves with our veterinarian over the last three years. - Casper is really sensitive to stress. During prolonged periods of extreme stress (such as a difficult move, or in our case- another cat) he may develop stomach ulcers that can be taken care of with a 3-week cycle of meds. Our vet has also prescribed him gabapentin to be given during times of unavoidable stress (house moves, vet visits, groomers, etc.) in effort to avoid future ulcer episodes. - At some point before we adopted Casper, he contracted an intestinal parasite. It went untreated until we had him, and it caused Casper to have a permanently sensitive stomach. He absolutely requires a raw cat food diet; again, trust us, we have tried everything over the last three years. Currently he eats Darwin's, and it cost us around $80/month. Adoption fee will go directly towards getting Casper transitioned and set up with you, with as many supplies as the fee covers. A 30-day trial period will be required to see if it works for both parties. We really love Casper and want to make sure that he goes to a home where he can live his best life.
