About Honey

Adoption Fee: $100
Australian Shepherd / Poodle
Age: Adult
Sex: Female

Honey is an amazing Aussiedoodle mix. The photo shown is right before I got her a summer cut. I could send additional photos of her as she looks now with short hair. I rescued her from a deplorable situation about 6 months ago. She is current on all her shots, has a current rabies tag. It was love at first sight with Honey and I. She has a huge heart and wants to devote herself to her people. She has the most expressive, beautiful eyes. I had my granddaughter with me when we went to pick her up to make sure she was okay with children, and Honey went up to her, and put her paw on her shoulder and was very gentle with her. As the months have progressed, Honey has become very jealous of my grandchildren, and growls and snaps at them. No matter what I have tried, like those people giving her treats (she doesn't growl then but might later), turning our back on her when she growls, lots of positive praise and reinforcement when she allows them close to me, but she has become very protective of me when people approach me, or if I am holding a grandchild. She bit my neighbor, and nipped my granddaughter. I want to be very upfront about this behaviour as it seems to be getting worse instead of better. I cannot have this behavior with little children around as I feel I cannot trust her. I am sick at the thought of having to rehome her. She is fine with me and my husband, but may growl or nip at two other adults that live with us currently and who are experienced dog folks. There has been NO HITTING, KICKING, YELLING or any aggressive thing done toward her from my family or friends, so I am confused as to why she feels she has to protect me when I have tried to show Alpha characteristics to her. She is good in the car, she'll go to strange people if I am not there (like going to the vet). This seems to be getting worse. I am asking a minimal adoption fee just to make sure she goes to a serious person who she can devote herself to. She has a fatty cyst on her side but it is getting smaller. She was very overweight when I got her. The vet wanted her to get to about 45 pounds which I think she is very close to right now.
