About Sammy

RESCUE ALERT - SAMMY needs IMMEDIATE placement. Sammy's beautiful blue eyes have lost their sparkle. Please help this poor fella' who is afraid of his own shadow. Sammy is a 4-year old Husky / Cattle Dog mix who is located at The Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter (faaspets.org) in Attleboro, MA. After living with the same person since he was 4 months, Sammie is now completely beside himself in the shelter. He was surrendered by an owner who was moving and could not take him with her. He's been an extremely nervous dog his entire life, so now his fear is past his threshold. Therefore a quiet, slow-paced home, preferably with a safe fenced-in yard is needed. Sammy will not eat unless he is hand fed. He LOVES other dogs and must go to a home with another fur-kid. When he's with another dog, he feels so much better and this shows in his body language and actions. The volunteers walk him on leash, but he is stressed out during the entire time. After 5 to steps, he looks back and gets scared of the person at the end of the leash. For the rest of the walk he has a nervous jittery 'get me out of here' look. If he were to get off leash, he's the kind of dog who would very likely flee. As a flight risk, he must be carefully supervised outside and near exit doors. Sammy has never bitten but considering how scared and nervous he is, he has plenty of reasons to nip out of fear. The staff will help his adopter with management techniques. Sammy will need plenty of time, patience, and the help of a fellow canine friend to lift the weight of the world now on his shoulders. This is an EMERGENCY need. Sammy is making himself sick.
