About Teddy

Poodle / Australian Shepherd
Age: Puppy
Sex: Male

Please read this entire post before contacting us. Thank you ahead of time... Meet Teddy. He is a 65 pound Aussiedoodle. He has a lot of the herding breed mentality. He is happiest when he is kept busy. But he also has the intelligence of a poodle and listens well, and responds well to positive reinforcement. The issues we have experienced with him are due to prior trauma.. at 10 months old he has went from a breeder to a home in the city with no yard and no experience. Their idea of diciplne when raising a puppy was swatting him over his head with a news paper. (He does not like paper around him at all and is head shy becuase of it.. ) and when I say head shy, I mean he will let you pet him everywhere else.. but the top of his head, it upsets him. He is young, so in the right home with the right person I know he can conquer any and all fears he has as it's as simply as learning to trust his person. Sadly when others fail animals we are left to pick up the pieces. He is an amazing boy. Sweet. Loving. Spunky. Full of energy. Loves car rides. Loves treats. Loves all dogs. Loves all people. But he has his quirks that his next owner will need to understand and work through with him. With all that he has been through he needs a solid commitment with someone who will see him through the rest of his life. Failing an animal too many times can lead to lifetime affects that never heal. His prior owners didn't work with him, never taught him properly or gave him an outlet he needed to thrive and be happy and when he became agitated with them for their ways of discipline they decided to start medicating him.. and blamed the dog. The medication he was on I'm very familiar with, it's for anxiety, they blamed anxiety and said it must have been bred into him and meds would cure him. The only cure was a new family, they not only mistreated him, but heightened his fears with the side affects the medicine had on him while he was on it. Since with us, I took him off all meds and he has been wonderful.... some people just shouldn't own dogs. With all that said.. He has already been neutered, chipped, and will be brought current on all vaccines. We had his k9's shaved down. My vet said it's a technique he has used in the past and he thought it would be extremely beneficial for him long term. Shaving down the k9's will hopefully strip him of his desire to want to bite when In fearful situations. We wanted to be able to work with him and have him trust us and his new person without the fear of biting. This is the first time I've ever shaved down an animals k9's, it's something my vet swears by and said he would be a great candidate for, And I trust my vet. He has been abused, and getting the muzzle on him was a nightmare in the back.. he was petrified of what in his mind was going to come next, and when an animal is so fearful eventually that fear can turn into aggression. The way I look at things is different, I've been in rescue 10 years I've seen a lot. If there is something that can help an animal, why wait for something to happen before taking the initiative to do something that could have possibly prevented it, It shouldn't be a last resort if it can save him from ever hurting someone... as a last resort would mean that the potential is there.... now! If we havent scared you off after reading all of the above and you have made it this far, know that he is a wonderful beautiful amazing special dog that people failed miserably, but that doesn't mean he doesn't deserve a good home with a good family. Reach out to us today if you have what our boy needs, if not.. thanks for getting this far and all we can ask if to share him like crazy! Let's get him home!!! (Adoption fee is 1500. Negotiable under special circumstances. But it truly goes back into all we have put into him, as it's been greater than what we ask.)
