Meet Teddy. This sweet little bear came to our family from back parts of Indiana. From the owners there story was that Teddy was too much for them with another dog that they own. They had also stated that Teddy had animal aggression(I want to make it clear now this is not true!). They want him to find a wonderful home because they know they are not able to take care of him the way they should. They have told us that he is a pure bred chow chow but we are unsure which is why is placed as mix breed. Let start off with health! Teddy came to us about 45lbs, if you are at all familiar with Chow Chows you know that being an adult male, he should weigh between 55-71 lbs. There is a crazy difference here which means he had been severely malnourished. We do not know why, it could be past owners left the food out and other dog would eat Teddy's too. We just don't know why he is so skinny ;(. We have been feeding him a mix of adult dog food, dog protein powder and wet food. He is a little bit of a picky eater but this helps him eat a healthy amount. At his vet/vaccination visit the vet confirmed with us his malnourishment and that she believed based on how timid Teddy was, that he was abused/neglected. Now for temperament. He is fully crate trained and only barks when you come home and he knows it is time to come out. His crate is like his safe space, when he was first in my home he would stay in the crate with an open door and only venture out very little. It has been about 3 weeks now and he has warmed up to us and comes out to say hi and for some pets. When he came to my home he was partially potty trained and we believe that with all the fear/anxiousness that he had he only felt comfortable leaving his crate about five feet which is why he had about 3 accidents. He is on a morning and evening schedule (sometimes afternoon) for bathroom breaks and since learning this he has not had an accident. I currently have three other dogs in my home 2 small poodle mixes (14lb) and 1 golden doodle (85lb). He gets along very well with my two little dogs I have never seen any sort of aggression or anything that would lead me to believe he did not like other dogs. As for the golden doodle he is still a puppy and has a lot of energy. He jumps and is really clumsy and pushed people out of the way. Teddy is not a big fan of all this energy and gets concerned when it looks like the golden is hurting us. But again we have seen no aggression at all, we have seen him bark at the golden in a 'calm down don't hurt them' manner but never in a I am going to attack you. If you do have another dog we believe it would be best if they were smaller OR had a really calm temperament like Teddy. I do not know what his cat compatibility is. He walks really well on leashes and has been introduced to stairs and loud noises as I live in the city. He has all of his shots up to date and had a passing heart test. He has been groomed with nails trimmed and fully brushed out because chows are a shedding breed. We have him currently scheduled to be neutered June 4th. He can be adopted out before then but all of the neuter costs will be covered by us and you have the option of him staying with us the following week of neuter or going back to you. He hasn't been able to be neutered yet because almost all of the clinics are fully booked two months out due to COVID. If you are interested in providing this sweet loving baby a home please reach out to us. THIS ANIMAL WILL NOT BE GIVEN TO A BREEDER OF ANY KIND. IT IS EXPECTED THAT HE WILL BE NEUTERED AS STATED ABOVE BY US. IF YOU CAN NOT AGREE TO NEUTER THIS DOG, THIS DOG IS NOT FOR YOU.
