About Jeffrey

Meet Jeffrey, again !! We posted this awesome guy before but put that on hold after additional medical concerns came up. He's been hanging out keeping us company while we worked everything out. He's now fully recovered and ready for a special family. We originally saved Jeffrey from a cold outdoor shelter. He was left there by his owners when he got sick. He was very sick, terribly thin and covered in matting causing skin issues. He is feeling so much better now!! Jeffrey is a 12 year old, male, Shitzu. He is a senior dog but acts younger when you want to go for a walk or play. He weighs approx 15 pounds. His personality keeps us laughing. He has no issues telling you when it's time to feed him, he really likes to eat! He is half lazy old man and half spunky, bossy puppy. He LOVES to play tug o war and always chooses toys bigger than he is. Walks, he loves them! not much makes Jeffrey happier! He lights up when it's time to go. He loves car rides and is a very polite front seat passenger. When you don't want to play with him he just sleeps in his bed. Overall he's a really easy going guy. Jeffrey's biggest personality flaw is that he does not like to be picked up. He will try to bite you, it appears to scare him. Now, with that said, if he wants help into the car or on the couch you're allowed to pick him up ������%A4�'�%8D��'ە�%8F Honestly he's a character! He doesn't require to be picked up often and will let you wrap him in a blanket and pick him up without a fight. You can touch him all over, rough house with him, play with his ears, tail etc it's only being picked up that bothers him. He is neutered, and up to date on vaccines. He's Heartworm negative. He is also microchipped. He does have a low grade heart murmur that the vet said should not cause him any problems. He has recently had a dental cleaning and a fresh new groom and hair cut. He takes an inexpensive pill twice a day to keep his blood pressure stable and getting him to take the pills is very easy, just drop it in his food. Unfortunately Jeffrey does have one issue we have been unable to resolve. When he sleeps he sometimes leaks a little urine. He is completely potty trained when awake but can't seem to control it when he's sleeping hard. This has been easily managed with a reusable cloth puppy pad over his bed or diapers/belly bands if you'd like him to sleep with you on the couch or bed. We will send him with some of the reusable pads and belly bands! I know that sounds like a turn off but it really hasn't been a hard thing to manage. We really hope someone will look past his flaw and realize what an amazing dog he is. He's worth it!! Jeffrey has done great with cats and other dogs of all sizes. He doesn't mind big dogs as long as they don't step on him. He loves everyone, kids included, but we want him to go to a home without younger kids due to his issues being picked up. He is extremely loving and likes to cuddle. He's a social guy that enjoys being petted. He adores being with people. He's low energy but still feisty and playful at times. He's a perfect apartment dog. Jeffrey is very good on the leash and likes to go for walks and adventures. He is generally an easy little guy to have around. He's not shown any issues when sharing food or toys with people or animals. He can be crated or left out when you're gone. He is not destructive. He prefers to go outside to potty but uses the pads to pee in between if he needs to. He is NOT cool with pooping on the pads ��%A4�'�%8D��'ە�%8F. He will....but first he will bark and throw a 3 year that broken their favorite crayon level fit, to be let outside. ������%A4|��%8F%BC�'�%8D��'ە�%8F He's a character I tell ya! Jeffrey will need regular grooming. This requires time to get him to and from the appointments and additional expenses to pay for it. On average a dog of this breed will need grooming every 6 weeks. This should be fully considered prior to applying to adopt him. Located in Hampton VA.
