About Hoagie

This post is going out with a Hail Mary that there is one special angel that is reading this right now that will save Hoagie from leaving in a garbage bag . His owners health has been deteriorating and says that he deserves to be provide everything she can't . At this point if we dont find a adopter or foster all that will be provided is a garbage bag , the sad reality . Hoagie is broken hearted and so scared. On 5-4-21 the shelter staff was able to finally get him out of his kennel . He just needed some time to warm up a little to this scary place . No compassion . Below is his shelter notes . Timestamped for SATURDAY 5/08@5:30pm Hoagie ACCT-A-88348 Dog - Hound Sex : Male Age : 7Y / 1M / 4W Weight : 111.20 lbs Location: Large Dog Kennel, F9 Hoagie ACCT-A-88348 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to behavioral concerns. Hoagie urgently needs to leave because he has been presenting behavioral concerns, such as chard staring, growling, and lunging at the front of his kennel, with frontal posture, flagged tail, refusal of high value food and a bite history. Hoagie also does have confirmed URI; which is not the reason for TS . Hoagie ACCT-A-88348 Intake Type: Owner/Guardian Surrender -- Owner Health Sex: Male Age: ~7Y Altered: Yes Medical Observation: 4/28 (Intake Exam) -- Fully checked in. Did not give dewormer due to behavior Behavior Observation: 5/4 (Per Evaluation) -- Kennel Presentation: Nervous. Handler has spent the past few days tossing treats into Hoagie's kennel several times a day while walking past, handler has also spent time outside Hoagie's kennel with her body turned to the side, avoiding eye contact, speaking in a low voice and tossing in treats (which Hoagie eats in kennel). Earlier in the day, the handler approached Hoagie's kennel and spoke to him in an animated voice, he began to tail wag (mouth closed, pupils dilated) and took high value treats from the handler's hand through the bars. At time of evaluation, the handler approached the kennel, Hoagie was at the front with a neutral body and was easily leashed. Leash Skills: Pulls Strongly On Leash. Hoagie eliminated outside and pulled strongly. Hoagie appeared stressed and was panting rapidly and attempting to pull toward cars in the parking lot. Handleability: Tense/Allows some handling. Once in an outdoor enclosure, Hoagie was still on leash and he continually searched for exits, panting rapidly, tail high, ears back. Hoagie ignored the handler and initially would not take high value treats off the ground but eventually took a few from the handler's hand. Hoagie allowed the handler to lightly stroke his neck and back but he became tense at one point and began to lip lick, the handler did not continue to push. The handler did sit and avoid eye contact while speaking softly to Hoagie, but Hoagie continued to look for exits. Tag and toys: Did not attempt Color Level: Blue. Due to bite history and behavior consistent with 'stranger danger' in the previous home, along with in-kennel behavior at the shelter. 4/28 (Per Behaviorist) -- Unable to remove for assessment due to hard staring, growling, and lunging at the front of his kennel, with frontal posture, flagged tail, and refusal of high value food. He still has one of the shelter's blue slip leads around his neck, in addition to a harness he may have come in wearing, and it appears we haven't been able to remove either yet. Recommend rescue/foster only for now and attempt a re-check on 4/30. 4/26 (Per Med Staff) -- unable to check in due to behavior, hard barking, lunging at front of kennel, starting on traz 4/25 (Per Previous Owner) -- I can't take care of him. I don't have the strength to properly take care of him. Barks at anyone going by the house. Gets aggressive when anyone comes to the door. Loves kisses hugs and food a lot of food. Has not lived with another animals but is dog social at the dog park. Has been interested in playing with cats outside but has not lived with any. very protective of owner. He bit my son when he was trying to make him stop barking. He pulls to the point I can't walk him anymore. Knows Sit, stay, lay down. He is so lovable all he wants is a person who is healthy to give him all the things I can't do anymore. Plus a home that won't give him all the crazy I'm going through now.
