THANK YOU** This is our precious boy, Max who is a 1 1/2 yr old Maltese/Terrier mix at about 18lbs. Max was surrendered to us when his owner unfortunately did not have time to care for a puppy and the responsibilities that come with owning one. Max is a dog that does not show well at our meet/greets because he is terribly scared and anxious. We know that he is a dog that will not come into your home will open arms and full of love. He is a dog that will take time, even weeks to warm up to you and his new surroundings, but with patience, time, and love, he will learn to trust and feel safe in his new home. We need experienced dog owners who will give him that time and patience that he needs. You can't expect him to acclimate in a matter of days and we don't want him in a home that will give up easily. Due to this issue, we can't place him in a home with children 13 yrs old and younger. He needs an active and experienced dog owning family that will guide him into being the best dog ever. He is terrified of the leash and walks, so he needs weeks of backyard practice before him taking him out on the streets. Max MUST go into a home with another YOUNG, sweet, and playful dog. He CANNOT be an only dog. If you do not have another dog and are looking for two, he can be adopted with his best friend Felix (dobie mix). He's a very young dog so he needs an active home that will exercise him and take him on hikes when he is trained with walking safely and properly. He must go into a home with a safe and secure yard where he can run and play in. He cannot be an apt/condo type dog. Max also has issues with feeding time. You can set the bowl of food there and he will just stare at it. He needs patience and persuading to eat. You will probably have to hand feed him to get him to start eating. We don't want to place him in a home that will feed him only dry food. He need encouragement so we want him with owners that will incorporate some home cooking and/wet food into his diet. Max is a dog that had a life of no socialization, no guidance, and no love. We want him in the most perfect home because we will not set him up to fail. The possible forever home needs to be ok with every issues he has, will be patient and work with those issues, and not give up after a few days. We will be requiring at least 2-3 meet/greets before going the next step with a home check and trial period. We want to make sure this can work. We are also requiring a 3ft dog gate at the front door so he does not dart out. This will be contractual regardless if you have a secure screen door or fenced front yard, a dog gate will be a must! Let's show Max what true unconditional love is by finding a fabulous forever home! WE ONLY ADOPT IN LOS ANGELES AND SURROUNDING AREAS AS AN IN PERSON HOME CHECK AND TRIAL PERIOD ARE REQUIRED. WE ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR A HOME IN THE SOUTH BAY OR WEST SIDE AS MAX IS IN THE SOUTH BAY AND IT WILL MAKE THE 2-3 MEET/GREETS A LOT EASIER. Max's adoption fee is $600.
