About ERIEL

Adoption Fee: $300
Himalayan
Age: Young Adult
Sex: Female

*Special need-read the entire bio before applying* ERIEL is a beautiful 1 year old FLAME POINT HIMALAYAN, who weighs in at a mighty 5.5 lbs. She has beautiful color points of orange, her body is snowy white, and her eyes are blue. She is spayed, tested felv/fiv negative, up to date with rabies and distemper vaccines, microchipped and has her claws. Eriel was in very bad shape when she first came into SPCR. She had been living in a cage, so she had muscle atrophy in both back legs, bad teeth, eye infections, and an upper respiratory infection. We took care of all of that, but because of bad breeding, she is special needs, and will always be special needs. Despite all that, she is happy, loving, and a little bit sassy. When I call her name, the tail will go up and she'll come by my hubby and I for pettings and nose rubbings, unless she's being a sassy girl, then she'll take off running in the opposite direction! Lol She couldn't hardly walk, much less run, when we first fostered her because of muscle atrophy in both back legs, but now she runs like the wind! She has a luxation in her right hip, but it doesn't bother her nor does it need attention. Eriel has a very small nose, and since it is so small, she can't have nares surgery. She snorts and sneezes once in awhile but does just fine. She may or may not, in the future, have to take antibiotics occasionally to clear up her stuffy nose. However, she's a little trouper about taking liquid meds. Eriel's bad teeth were all extracted, so she doesn't have many left, but she eats both dry cat food and Gerber chicken baby food without any problem, and her adorable little tongue peaks out most of the time because, well frankly, she has nowhere to put it. Her eyes unfortunately, are never going to be normal. She had Symblepharon surgery to her right eye which means she had adhesion/ fusion of the eyelids to the cornea of her eye, and the eye lids were surgically released. She has some vision in both eyes, but we don't know how much, and it is definitely limited more so in the right eye than the left. She probably only sees light or shadows in that eye per the vet. She also sees better in brighter light vs low light. We know she has no or very little depth perception in either eye. Eriel can now climb up cat trees, beds, furniture, etc, but she can't get down because she can not judge distances. She will literally stay up high forever until you help her down. She enjoys climbing up and up and up, because now she has the strength in her back legs, but she doesn't think about how she's going to get down. Little goof! Eriel hasn't figured out ramps yet, so that's no help. She also can not navigate steps. She can do 1-2 steps no problem, but no more than that. Going down into the basement or going upstairs, she just isn't capable of doing. She will have to get her eyes cleaned with a wet cloth, 1-2 times a day, because they are weepy. Eriel doesn't mind being picked up for short periods, however she doesn't like to be held while you're walking. Due to her eyesight, she gets scared and disoriented. She loves people and wants to be where they are. She'll very quietly lay or sit close to you. Eriel loves to be combed, play with wand toys that you drag behind you as you walk, or chase colorful fuzzy balls, but mostly she's a lazy Himmy, who wiles away most of the day sleeping nearby. She's an adorable little girl who has a quiet purr, will hold your finger while giving it kitty kisses, and make you laugh! Due to her limited vision, a lot of noise and activity scare her, so we're going to be looking for her forever home to be quiet with adults who are home during the day. No dogs, no small children and someone who only has 1-2 other mellow cats, or she would also do very well as an only cat. Remember she is special needs, and will ALWAYS be! She loves climbing, and taking a long catnap up high, but needs you to be there when she needs help getting down. ADOPTION FEE $300. FOSTERED IN CAMPBELLSPORT, WI.
