Adopt Steele!!! This AMAZING boy is Incredible!! He is ready for a true forever home and we couldn't be more proud of his progress!! Age: 4 years Weight: 120 pounds Location: Oklahoma City, we adopt nationwide and Pick up/transport also available! Requirements: NO children under 16 living in home. Prior Giant experience required. Steele is the best boy ever! He is literally perfect in our eyes and we couldn't be more proud to find him the best family for his forever home! Are you that family?? Steele's story is a bit crazy. I was traveling back from a transport up North, 5 dogs rescued and in tow with me. I got a phone call, I was literally driving through Indiana at the time. The woman on the other end was a neighbor of Steele, in complete desperation!! She begged me to see if I could take this boy who was scheduled for euthanasia the next day at 11am. He had been tortured by a neighbors child for several years through the fence. The stars aligned one day just right, screen door open, gate opened to get the mail.... Steele spotted this child and took his revenge! He charged him, head butted him, knocked him several feet!!! There was NO BITE, no red marks, etc. However, the neighbor went crazy and the result was find rescue or euthanize him!!! The dog did NOT deserve to DIE! However, we were totally full and bringing back 5 new rescues already! I was literally an HOUR from this dog at this moment. That struck me in so many ways, like was this fate, was God aligning it all? I was so torn!! We were full, my boarding facility was full, my fosters full, my home was full and he was going to need behavioral evaluation, rehabilitation and training which costs us a ton... I told this woman that I needed to pull over and make some phone calls to see what I could do... I sat there a good 20 minutes in prayer and I knew the only way was if Trish our Behaviorist had an open kennel at her training facility and could commit until we either found foster or adopter. We have one kennel reserved there at Wright Way Canine Center, just for us, but it is full for another in training. We rotate our dogs there that need it. This also meant doubling our training costs for another dog, which is over $800/month per dog. We didn't really have it in our budget either, but my entire soul just told me I had to try. So I called, my only hope was her undying love for what we do as a rescue to save lives! I explained the situation, she said she needed to see and would call me back... 10 minutes later she said they found room and would take him!!!! I made the call back and met the neighbor with Steele about an hour into Indianapolis and loaded him up! I fell in love with him immediately, he was absolutely stunning. We went for a walk and bonded! Then it was off to the vet! He was all good, so that meant he was cleared to go to our training facility! Off we went, when we got there he was still very overwhelmed but as soon as Trish saw him she too fell in love! It didn't take long for him to come out of his fear and thrive!!! Steele has been with our trainer now for months!!! Unfortunately, I fell e ill during this time and could not move our dogs. I am finally in recovery and it's time to help this boy move on! He got Daily training, daycare play times and was loved by all the staff and anyone who met him there. He got to go on several outings with Trish, spent some time at her home too. Steele absolutely loves it and has done nothing but thrive! We have discovered he absolutely LOVES every dog he meets! He has learned how to play, communicate and read others well! He doesn't cate how big or small, what sex they are or anything! He is AMAZING and definitely can be a dog park dog in his future home! He has mastered all his training skills, but definitely needs a handler who understands giants and can be loving but firm. He will perform amazingly with the right handler! Sit, down, heel, wait, stay, place, etc! He has literally become a dream of a dog! He also absolutely loves toys and is happy to be very active or snuggle on the couch! He has never shown any sign of aggression towards anyone or paid any attention to children in public, but due to his history we will not place him in a home with children under 16. He does need a giant experienced owner. He is crate trained, potty trained and the best dog we could of ever imagined he would be! He deserves the best home full of love, snuggle times, play times, treats and affection. He would do amazing in a home with other dogs! His cat tolerance is still a bit shaky, he has been cat tested and does still get a bit over excited by them. He is overly curious and tries to chase occasionally, but his skills and training with the right person could be taught to leave them alone if monitored and trained properly. He has grabbed a cat before, immediately when told leave it, he let go. He was jealous, did not try to harm the cat, with proper supervision and work he can easily live with a cat.
