About Barker (east)

Hi, my name is BARKER - ID#A4539285. I am a neutered male, blue and white American Pit Bull Terrier. The shelter staff think I am about 3 years old, and I have been at the shelter since Feb 10, 2021. Barker is one strong boy! 72 lbs of nothing but muscle. Barker needs to be an only dog but, honestly, if you have him in your life, you have no need for anyone else. He is an incredibly sweet boy who is treat motivated and very gentle. Here are recent notes about Barker: 3/6/2021 WALK Calm greeting at gate. He pulled at the leash extremely strongly. About 3/4 through the walk path loop he just stopped and wouldn't budge. I bribed him with treats for a while then just had to pull leash. When we got back in the property he was fine, walked somewhat calmly and was returned to kennel with no trouble at all. When we stopped for quiet time he allowed petting with relaxed tail and body but did not seek affection. 3/20/2021 WALK Pretty easy to leash and take out of kennel. Quick exit of building. Strong pull until we were away from shelter. We were far enough away from shelter and Barker stopped and wouldn't continue on walk. Seemed anxious and heavy panting. Walked with loose leash and took treats softly. Took to small yard outside Intake. Lots of drinking water. I did hose his back down with water to cool him. When we left yard he laid down. Lots of coaxing but managed to get him going again. In kennel building he was a bit difficult to return to his kennel. He pushed towards neighbor kennel and fence fought. Once him his kennel, he was easy to remove leash. We recommend Barker have an experienced handler work with him some, and he should probably be the only dog in the home.
