About Zeke

Pyrenees mix and basket case. This poor guy, we call him Zeke, was rescued from an abusive situation. We are told he is around 7 months old and he is unaltered. Prior living quarters was chained in a horse trailer, so he does not/will not kennel willingly. Whatever was done to him for behavior control prior to us has made the poor thing extremely skiddish, to the point he can not be pet while in an open area (will takeoff), is almost impossible to catch, shakes/hides at every sound on earth (wind, trees, you name it) he is good with our chickens from what we can tell and he is good with our dogs. That said, recommend not introducing him to a house that has more than one other dog because he needs a lot of one on one work. Treat motivated but not enough to override his fear. Food aggresive/protective, doesn't attack our other dogs but does snarl and gets in an attack posture. If kenneled he is dosile and sweet, but a nervous wreck the entire time. He wants to be your friend, you can see it in his eyes, he just can't bring himself to trust anyone. So. Why are we not keeping him and working with him ourselves you ask. We have four large dogs (another Pyr included) and after working with him pretty intensely for about a 8 weeks, we have made progress, but think our 'pack' is too big for him to really get the 1:1 time he seems to need to break through his mistrust issues. And honestly we just couldn't stand to see him treated the way he was and knew even if it was temporary we needed to do something to get him out and on the way to a better life. For those that just want to save his adorable little face, a big heart is not enough for this guy. Please have LGD training experience, this poor dog needs someone who can truly rehab him, and his breed makes him resistant to training and naturally independent already. NE Kansas.
