About COSMO

Meet COSMO! He is an approximately 12 year old dachshund that the rescue saved after finding him abandoned under an overpass in Jerome County all by himself. There were no homes in the area, so we believe that he was likely dumped because of his age and medical condition. Because COSMO was found with a painful-looking mouth, the rescue got him into surgery to remove some teeth. COSMO was later diagnosed with an oro-nasal fistula and went back into surgery for a repair and to extract more teeth. Fundraising to cover the $3,500 medical expenses was started. Thank you to his adoring foster mom for caring for him during his recovery and for all these behavior notes. COSMO's behavior could be summarized with the phrase 'Relaxed with Moments of Exploring and Playing'. COSMO is very curious about meeting new people and animals. He loves other dogs and children. Check out his prancing antics (see video) when it is chow-time. COSMO has limited sight and hearing, but adapts quickly to any surrounding. For his age, COSMO is really quite healthy. He will need eye drops a few times a day as he suffers from dry eye, but he takes the drops really well. COSMO will do best with someone home a lot to check on him and to let him out to do his business. He knows how to come back in through a doggy door. COSMO is crated at night and really doesn't mind it. He could be taught how to use the crate during the day. COSMO may need some time to warm up to his future new living situation, but he will then enjoy a loving touch and/or rub around his ears.
