About Vesper

Meet the amazing Vesper--3 1/2 years old, athletic, smart, and super handsome--a little tornado of crazy energy with a flip side of loves and snuggles. Vesper weighs 24 lbs. with spring-loaded long legs capable of leaping over tall fences (six foot!) in a single bound when there is something interesting on the other side. Fortunately, running away is not his motive and he is easy to retrieve, but nonetheless, Vesper will need to be supervised when he is outside, even in a fenced yard. For this reason, a dog door for pottying is not an option. Vesper is mostly house-trained and will let you know when he needs to go out, but when he does, he means NOW, so pay attention or accidents may happen. If you're looking for a sports dog, Vesper says, 'Pick me!' He's fast, agile, very driven (especially if there is a ball involved) and highly reward motivated. He also loves to swim. With training he would be an amazing candidate for agility, flyball, lure chasing, or dock diving. He got to try out these activities at Purina Farms in Missouri, and he was a star! Even if competitive sports aren't involved, Vesper needs an active family that can provide him plenty of daily exercise to meet his energy needs. He would make a great companion for a runner or hiker, or anyone who just likes to get out and 'do fun stuff.' Vesper gets along great with other dogs. He would appreciate having a canine sibling to play with, and he loves going to the dog park. He also loves going out with his humans to parks, stores, and restaurants, where he is perfectly mannered and charms everyone he meets. He's great to travel with and loves the car. For all his friendly, outgoing charm, however, Vesper draws the line at trusting humans who are less than 3-4 feet tall. Kids are not his cup of tea. He finds them kinda freaky and unpredictable and will not hesitate to let them know they better back off or else, so no homes with small children please. Homes with cats are a no as well. Vesper, like all good rat terriers, does have an off switch. He likes to nap a lot during the day and loves to snuggle up to you. At night his preference is to be in bed with you under the covers, but he's OK in a crate as well. Vesper says, 'Dogs as great as me only come around once in a lifetime, so don't miss out!'
