About Pogo

Pogo- the name says it all. This one year old Great Dane has boundless energy. He just had his cherry eye and neuter surgery but that didn't dampen his spirit. He will follow you all day long constantly wagging his tail. He has not met a stranger - a dog, a cat, or a human. This happy-go-lucky boy just wants to play and be loved. He is skeptical of strangers at first but comes around after giving some space to decompress. When he arrived he didn't even respond to his name and was very skittish. But the transformation was quick and he's become a happy boy.�%A0 Did we say that he's very vocal - well he is. He can be loud - be it while yawning, sighing, howling, and -of course - barking. All these produce hilarious moments to enjoy. He needs an active family with another assertive dog (preferably) as he can be pushy and headstrong. Typical teenage male Dane. He needs gentle but firm corrections consistently (we observed that if we correct him he was getting scared). A positive reinforcement in terms of treats and redirection would work best. The ideal family will continue to teach and respect his boundaries. He'll definitely try to get away with whatever he can if not redirected. He's learning his leash manners - he's great with gentle leader or transition leash but pulls otherwise (we are working on that now as his activities were limited before). Pogo is not a counter-surfer and doesn't get into things but he needs stimulating activities to keep him occupied. �%A0 Pogo is crate trained, housebroken, neutered, and UTD on vaccines and preventatives. Giant breed experience is a plus. He REQUIRES 5+ ft PHYSICAL FENCE because he was surrendered to the shelter after escaping his yard multiple times. We do not know what kind of fence, if any they had. Kids 12+ yrs old due to size, age and energy level. Pogo is currently in a foster home in the Atlanta GA area. We do adopt out-of-state but require adopters to travel to the foster home with their current dog/dogs (to ensure they will be friends) to pick up.
